Easter oriental cruise

Reviewed By: Guy, Rochdale on 6th Jul 2008
Cruise Line: Royal Caribbean Cruises Times cruised before: 3-5
Cruise Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas Sailed: March, 2008
Destination: Far East Age: 36-45
We did two back to back cruises which we booked in Nov 07. A month or so before we were due to sail, they changed the sailing date shortening the cruise by one day and leaving us with the additional headache fo finding accommodation in Hong Kong for which they wouldn't reimburse us!. It also left out one of the more interesting ports (Okinawa) which was dissappointing. Finding the boat was relativley easy though we have seen better checking arrangements for other cruises.
Our cabin was ok if a little tired and in need of updating. Service was ok but no-one fell over themselves to go the extra mile. Our waiter Reino was absolutely fab as were the guests we sat with - but as you probably appreciate, it is usually the people you meet who make the holiday. The food was acceptable and well cooked though we had the same menu for both cruises. We have seen wider ranges of choice on other cruises. The buffet was a little disappointing and too frequently closed when we wanted to grab a bite (much prefer 24hr buffets on other cruises). Having had a small accident on board the medical facilities were ok if a little limited and the bill was rather expensive for a sprained ankle. The entertainment we varied but not particularly exciting - possibly because they tried to use non-verbal entertainers due to the limitations of having guests who may not have spoken English well. the accomodation by the pools was rather limiting if you don't like being oven roasted by the sun. We would have appreciated an Adult Only pool - one was supposed to be but this was not adheared too - and we were on holiday and didn't want the hassle of complaining. Excursions were OK but some of the guides had more mastery of english than others. Agree with others that the port for Hanoi was disappointing and not really suitable. Also the Visa info was a little misleading we dicided not to bother with the cost and hassle of getting chinese visas before we went and were relieved to find we didn't need to have bothered. Back to back cruising was ok but they could have made this far easier - it was only when they changed the sailing date that we could upgrate to the same cabin for both legs of the voyage. Disembarking on the final day was onerous and took far too long (we have seen this managed far more effectively on other lines).

All in all probaly wouldn't go with this boat again and possibly not Royal Caribbean either. So far the best we have sampled was Princess line.
Quality of Food2
Looked forward to the meals - but that was mainly due to the company.
Entertainment1
Flourescent puppets were cringe worthy. Can't remember anything good - enough said!
Shore Excursions2
The locals were friendly, but the pre-paid excursions were a little over priced
Staff3
The staff in the evening dining room were great.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
We wished more families would have used these.
Onboard Activities1
not much for our tastes.
Cabins2
A Little past it's best!
