Casablanca and the canaries

Cruise Ship: Spirit of Adventure Sailed: October, 2007
Destination: Mediterranean Age: 65+
Taking our second cruise on the Spirit was like meeting an old friend. We flew out by special charter which was rather cramped but otherwise well cared for. Formalalities partially carried our on the flight made embarcation a very simple affair especially as the crew recognised us which made us feel instantly at home.
We choose an inside cabin which is of acceptable size as we spend so little time in it the cost saving is considerable. Provided are bath robes, binoculars and a small world atlas.
There is only one small lift which is tight for anyone with a wheelchair.
There is a small gym and inside pool on a lower deck, with a futher small pool outside. One drawback is the lack of a wrapround deck for external exercise. There are plenty of sunbeds in various spots and nowhere does it get crowded as there are numerous distractions from being too idol.
Desinations are the important element to this ship with excellent lecturers covering a variety of related topics to the cruise. On this cruise we were to experience the Moorish influence of southern Spain then the Morrocan lifestyle before turning our attention to the volcanic formation of the island-cruises-summer-holidays/">islands of Madeira and the Caranies including those little visited such as El Heirro.
There was a choice of two included excursions per destination with an optional longer one. Being diverted to Catagena in southern Spain was a very pleasant surprise and the visit to Rabat in Morrocco so interesting whilst the dramatic scenery to follow in the islands were wonderful. The specialist Geologist so helped in bringing to life the history and indeed the future of these islands alive.
The low key entertainment offered via a quartet playing for dancing and accompaning guest artists plus a string trio is such a contast to the high octane shows and casino life of the larger ships, however there was plenty of fun on board with a very talented Cruise Director Neil with a brilliant dry wit. We missed on this cruise the versatile Clive who not only is the Yacht Club pianist but offers snorkalling training and leads some cycling groups whilst on shore.
Food both in the dining room and the Veranda offers a good variety provided by a most friendly staff making eating one of the most pleasurable pursuits on board particually with a range of interesting
fellow passengers to share with.
In spare moments the superb library is a treat and late evenings a cinema on the roof was used for cheering or commiserating with Englands World Cup Rugby campaign.
Overall this is such a friendly little ship with a wonderful crew that we cant wait for our next trip exploring Iceland with her
