Cruise Line: MSC Cruises Times cruised before: 10+
Cruise Ship: MSC Musica Sailed: 2006
Destination: Western Europe Age: 46-55
My wife Tina and I sailed on the Musica on what was the ship's second cruise, we sailed from Venice on the 15th July 2006. There were 8 in our party ,all experienced cruisers.

Boarding the ship was a nightmare, there was some reason that the ship couldn't use the usual berth and the cruise line had started a baggage bar code system on the day. The result was several hours of queues and some time spent in the sun without shade. Taxis were literally pushing people out of the way with their fenders to get their passengers to the front of the line. This was our first experience of a rude and uncomunicative crew.

The ship is new and the cabins spacious and well appointed, unfortunately we had a cabin on the stern ,which meant a balcony unuseable because of a constant deposit of exhaust soot and sleepless nights because of propeller noise and severe vibration, After many visits to Guest Relations we changed cabins. Again we were disapointed by the rude and offhand attitude of the staff on board.

The food was of generally poor quality with no alternative dining on offer. We found a large sharp piece of bone in one dish, and fish bones in a meat dish. The buffets were overcrowded and frankly unappetising. The pay restaurant on this ship is a sushi bar called Kato, where the food was frankly disgusting.

The entertainment and music onboard was very good if directed at the Italian market. The night club was full of young children at all hours.

The itinary made for some quite short stopovers although we enjoyed a walking tour of Dubrovnik, and some time in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul.

The ship was very noisy and quite overcrowded, the only route from one end of the pool area to the other was to go downstairs along and up again

This cruise was obviously directed at the Italian domestic market and not up to USA or British standards.

Regarding the check-in I cannot confirm current situation as described previously: We arrived at 10.30 am at terminal and after check-in, we booked our shore excursions. Then you can check the beverage packages and we could be in on board before noon. Other cruisers who came later need less time than we did. Regading alternative dining: Have ever tested IL GIARDINO or KAITO? To IL GIARDINO: you pay 18.00 EUR and you get a value of about 60.00-70.00 EUR if you have to pay for it in Frankfurt. To KAITO: you pay 18.00 EUR and you get a value of 40.00-60.00 EUR EUR inf you hae to pay for it in Frankfurt. Feel free to visit my public photo gallery - you will easily identify the food of the IL GIARDINO and KAITO. http://public.fotki.com/HeinBloed/msc-musica KAITO: page 8 - pix 123 following and page 17 - pix 262 following IL GIARDINO: page 12 - pix 181 following I had the pleasure to meet Douglas Ward and corrected me when I was speaking from a sushi-bar by sushi-restaurant. You get nice Terriyaki and Tempura as well. Regards, Tien-Lun Ya
