I have tried to make a booking for a cruise in January 2009 on Spirit of Adventure for the last 6 weeks from Melbourne, Australia. My initial enquiry by e-mail in November 2007 to Saga Holidays was "fobbed off" by a referral to agents in Australia (Saga refused to make direct booking). The Australian agents kept advising me that neither Saga, nor Cruiseco have the pricing for the cruise in January 2009...so they were unable to make a booking. In the meantime I noticed the numbers of available cabins and the discount for advance purchase "shrinking". Finally, one of the Australian agents advised me on 2 January 2009 about availability of a double cabin, instead of the requested twin cabin. When I tried to correct this, I was advised that the change of my booking may resultin incresed cost. My wife and I tried to contact Saga and /or Spirit of Adventure directly by phone, e-mail and fax. Our faxes and e-mails remained unanswered, while our phone calls to 44 1303 771190 were either disconnected, transferred to "dead" numbers (nobody answering them), or we were promised to have a phone call back from "a consultant, when he is free from another caller" - nobody phoned back.
Obviously, our experience is similar to some other American, South African, and other "foreign" customers, who reported such appalling treatment of potential "non-British" customers, who simply gave up.
We may have to abandon our intention to travel with Spirit of Adventure and take a trip with a competition...
