Cruise Reviews

Not the usual RCI cruise.

My husband and I have just returned from a cruise with Celebrity X Century, nice ship clean and tidy and the food was good. Unfortunately, the weather was a total washout, not the cruise companies fault, but not being able to enter the port at Valletta we sailed the seven seas for a further day then stopped at Tunis and then a further day at sea until we reached Barcelona. The ship was quite a lacklustre ship, Not like other Royal Caribbean ships we had been on. The staff were nice a helpful and everyone was pleasant, but something was missing. The decor was brown and a bit dated, could do with a lift, our dining table was poked up in corner and we asked for the overhead light to be fixed in order for us to read the menu, we ended up with the only table with a candle on. It was a nice enough cruise but food in the buffet bar was coming to a close and running out of certain fruits and English tea, decaf is not our 'cup of tea' so to say. Sorry but we will not be cruising with this cruise ship in the future.
Quality of Food2
Food was good not great but better than some cruise, the evening meal was very nicely presented but lacked taste
Entertainmentn/a
Shore Excursions1
We always do our own thing as the trips are very expensive and for early rises
Staff2
We found our cabin steward was very thorough and cleaned the cabin well. The waiters were good no complaints there/
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities1
The entertainment was lots of adverts pushing aqua/spa/ treatments that were expensive, also anything that they thought they could sell you rather than free entertainment.
Cabins1
No, the cabin was small, tucked behind the Customer Relations desk, and as we understood it they had plenty of empty cabins, that they could have used instead of these. The corridor was very wide and the cabin was small with a large pillar in which meant you could not move the beds in any other position.

The Century has not long had a $55M dollar facelift and we were on it 5 months after the work was done and we liked the new look, but you can't please everyone. I think the Med in December would have to be avoided the Caribbean yes, the Med from October to March must always be a risk that there will be a good few days of bad weather. We have never had any problems with the food and we are both fussy eaters and difficult to please, but come September and we will be on the Century again and this will be our 4th trip and looking forward to it.
