Cruise Reviews

An archaeological eye-opener in the Eastern Med

Excellent modern ship with a hint of the old QE2 style. Our balcony cabin was efficiently designed, well lit and comfortable with the added bonus of being near to a laundry room. Laundry rooms on board were in short supply and frequently busy resulting in some discorteous behaviour. The shower room was cramped and not good for hand laundry.
Our cabin maid was extremely attentive, and deserved a large tip on the penultimate day. We opted to deny the $11 service charge to do this as we ate in the self service restaurant every night bar one. Our allocated restaurant - the Brittania was pedestrian, rushed and disappointing. We left feeling we could have eaten more, hence our subsequent visits to the Lido.
We did an organised trips ashore at each port of call, and while pricey they were designed to bring out the best of the archaeological treasures in each region. The trips were well subscribed but being November the sites visited were all quite quiet with space to wander off and not loose sight of the main party.
Weather wise - warm, sunny and dry. Temperature in high teens, low twenties, excellent time of year for tramping round Ancient Greek and Roman ruins.
Would do it all over again but would book grill class in future. The jump from balcony stateroom to suite seemed too big at time of booking but in retrospect would have been worth the extra.

Very pleased you had a good time despite your disappointment with the Brittania Restaurant. I would also agree with you regarding the sea days. This will, of course, be corrected from now on because Queen Victoria will be making all her sailings for 2009 from Southampton. Happy cruising. Richard
