Emerald Princess, bland but enjoyable

Reviewed By: Pack, Torquay on 2nd Dec 2008
Cruise Line: Princess Cruises Times cruised before: 6-10
Cruise Ship: Emerald Princess Sailed: November, 2008
Destination: Caribbean Age: 36-45
Just returned from our first cruise with Princess having previously been with NCL and Royal Caribbean. The ship was very pleasant and did everything well but we were told before we cruised that Princess was the best and went with high expectations!. Everything was average, no more. The entertainment was good but repeated too often, two shows on one night and then repeated once the following. We like to go to shows every night but not the same one twice! The hypnotist was good and I enjoyed his first show but was very disappointed with the so called adult version which was little different than the early evening shows. The food choice was also limited and favoured fish alot, which we are not great fans off, some nights it was difficult to choose unless you wanted the same fixed 'always available' choice again. We wish we had gone for the anytime dining where you could choose your time of eating and restaurant and meet different people. The ports of call made the cruise and we especially enjoyed Dominica, St Kitts and Barbados., where we arranged our own trips at the pier. Roosevelt, our tourguide at St Kitts was especially good, look for him if you go there!!. There was plenty to do on board but on hot seadays it was difficult to find a sunbed. I also found it strange that the books in the library were locked away when the library was 'closed' but you still had access to the room. The service in the main restaurant was good and little touches like remembering what drinks you liked were nice. Despite this I doubt we will ever cruise with Princess again as we felt others do it just as well ,even better and at a more reasonable cost with more effort with customer service and a wider choice on the menu.
