In August this year 2008 mywife and I went on a cruise on board P & O's new ship the Ventura.
It was many years since we had cruised with P & O so we were looking forward to sailing with them
again. We had seen the ship on the P & O web site and watched with interest the final stages of fitting out and
the ship being named.
After surviving the hussle and bussle of boarding at Southampton, the operation was by no means as efficient, as the port of Dover, when on board we had to wait until just before Dinner, second sitting, before we received all our luggage.
Why our bags, according to the label, were loaded aft when our cabin was forward is a mystery to me but this could account for the delay.
The ship its self is beautiful, lots of small areas, we surprised at narrowness of the promenade deck, it was to narrow to accomadate sun loungers, you had to settle for chairs, plenty of them, although the ship was full we never had trouble getting a sun lounger on the top deck because it was a family ship it was noisy at busy times, there were no changing facilaties near the pool so the toilets were awash with water, a design fault?, there was always plenty to do during the day if you did not want to sit by the pool.
Our restaurant was fine and our waiter and assistant could not have been better. The areas on the ship that were used for family dinning wer not as clean as they should have been.
The entertainment was first class, it was not a case of what shall we do but, what shall we miss.
there were faults on the ship but all the crew were working hard to cope with a new ship & new shipmate's.
some of the tours were better value for money than others.
all in all we enjoyed the cruise but if we sail with P&O again we will try another ship.
Our cabin was lovely our cabin steward was very good always there when needed but not over intrusive.
