We have just returned from our first cruise after making a late booking on Ventura due having had to cancel a holiday in Oz.
Many of our fellow passengers considered Ventura to be too big and impersonal but having nothing to compare it with we found it to be just great.
Our cabin was well laid out with a walk-in wardrobe and a particularly spacious balcony. The soundproofing of the cabins was most impressive. Our steward Jerry kept the cabin spotless and everything just right.
We elected for "Freedom" dining which gave us the flexibility to dine when and with whom we wanted to or alone for a change if we so desired. We would definitely choose this option again. We dined most of the time in the Saffron Restaurant during the day and in the Cinnamon Restaurant in the evening and found the variety and quality of the food to be excellent.
The evening entertainment was varied and very good. Particular mention must be made of the Ventura Theatre Company who were absolutely brilliant.
The gymnasium was large with plenty of modern equipment to use. However the advertised "nominal" fee for exercise classes we considered to be excessive and were consequently poorly attended. The only other criticism we would make of Ventura would be the cramped conditions on the sun decks on the days at sea.
One final mention should be made of the daily bulletin "Horizon" which was distributed to each cabin during the evening and highlighted the the following days entertainment and events both on and off the ship. This was very informative.
We are now converted to cruising and already planning for next year.
