We have just returned from a 1 week mediterranean-cruises/">mediterranean cruise on Voyager of the Seas. There were 3 of us sharing a balcony cabin (ages of 26, 28 and 79!). We all really enjoyed the holiday and would highlt recommend this trip to anyone who is thinking about going on Voyager of the seas.
I have been on the Carnival Destiny before but this far excelled my previous experience.
We arrived in Barcelona and the weather was fantastic (18oC and sunny) - great considering this was the last trip of the season in the Med. The ship was a magnificent sight, towering above the other celebrity cruise ships in the port. As our taxi arrived, our bags were taken from us and we procedded straight into check in. There were no queues and the process was very fast. Before we knew it we were walking along the gang plank getting ready to use our Sea Pass for the very first time.
The cabin was on the Ninth deck and was a superior oceanview stateroom. It was a little smaller than imagined however was adequate for the three of us sharing the room. It was spotless and had plenty of storage place for everyone. It was amazing how many hidden shelves there were behind the mirrors and space under the bed. Once unpacked, we went straight to the Windjammer for something to eat. The food was outstanding with so much choice - from burgers, chips, hot dogs to salads, soups, cottage pie, fruit and deserts. There was free water, iced tea and tropical juice available in the windjammer (no lemonade available as suggested by other research - probably because it was Med and not USA). We then walked around the ship and marvelled at all the different rooms. We walked down the royal promenade and visited the massive three tiered dining room with grand staircase and grand piano. We visited cleopatra's needle, the lounge bar/ cabaret venue, La Scala theatre and cafe promenade.
Food
Now all the reviews I have read have not provided me with an explanation of what is in included. So here it goes. Beakfast and Dinner is available everyday from the dining room. Breakfast offers buffet style to a la carte service including eggs benedict, full English, corn beef hash and kipper to mention a few. Breakfast is also served in windjammer - a slight more hectic affair and found to be very difficult to find a table in the mornings. The windjammer offers food all day - breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. There is also Cafe promenade on deck 5 which provides cookies, pizza, sandwiches and some cakes, tea, coffee and water (no tropical juice here) all day until 2 AM. The food in the dining room was excellent - good choices available and you could have whatever you wanted (you could order a main for your starter if you wished). The waiter staff were excellent and we were sad to say goodbye to them at the end of the trip.
Entertainment
There is so much to do on board. During the week there was a broadway review show, music in motion - music from the movies, magic show, welcome aboard show, farwell show with an excellent sub show called fluorescence (definately not one to miss) and an ice show spectacular. There was also bingo, dance classes, love and marriage gameshow, cake decorating show, ice skating, 9-hole golf course, rock climbing, inline skating, basketball, table tennis, jacuzzis, swimming pools (small for size of ship but empty due to cold weather), sauna and spa to mention a few. The cruise director for nauseating but apart from that the entertainment was fantastic.
Ports of Call
In all very good. Villefranche was beautiful and tendering worked well. You had to collect a tender ticket to get a time to go to shore. you could return in your own time without a ticket. Florence was ok but the tour was a little dissapointing - would not recommend the tour panoramic florence - unless you are really interested in visiting an overpriced leather shop for 45 mins. Rome we did on our own, got the train into the city and then a hop on hop off bus for the day. Warning tho, make sure you get back to the ship in plenty of time, we nearly missed it. Sorrento and amalfa coast was wonderful and would highly recommend the tour it is expensive but well worth the money. Palermo was a facinating port as well, very busy but beautiful buildings -the ship goes right into the centre so you can do a hop on and hop off bus tour. We even went back to the ship for lunch here as it was so close.
Overall
An amazing holiday of a lifetime!! Can't wait til my next cruise with Royal Caribbean International.
