Black Watch Adriatic Cruise November 2008

Reviewed By: hunt, higham on 1st Dec 2008
Cruise Line: Fred. Olsen Cruises Times cruised before: 10+
Cruise Ship: Black Watch Sailed: November, 2008
Destination: Mediterranean Age: 65+
Left Dover in very wet and windy weather. First port El Ferrol very ordinary Spanish town but convenient for tours to Santiago de Compostella. Weather improved for next 3 ports but disappointing for Venice and Ravenna. Dubrovnik very busy due to arrival of huge MSC ship. Kotor in Montenegro absolutely superb with glorious scenery. Tunis interesting as ever with much bargaining in the souk. Final port Almeria. Weather overall mixed but it was November after all. Ship up to usual standard for Olsens. Free shuttle buses very welcome at each port . Friendly service and excellent captain who went out of his way to add to the cruise. Sailed very close to Stromboli which was spewing out smoke and ash, held star gazing sessions on the top deck on clear nights and arranged for the pilot to sail around 2 beautiful island-cruises-summer-holidays/">islands as we sailed away from Kotor. Arrived back in Dover in freezing weather; lashing winds, rain and sleet. Dover terminal 2 very poor facilities for offloading and on loading luggage into cars which are parked a long way away from the ship.
