Reliabel high quality cruise

A good and very smoothly run cruise. Excellent service and truly excellent food.

All the little niggles that can spoil a cruise had been ironed out. There were hardly any queues, cabin was cleaned perfectly every day, staff were unfailingly polite. I didn't see a single argument or unsatisfied passenger: everybody seemed so happy!. The food in Toscana and Polo Grill was very special. In Toscana. for example, one was invited to choose between about ten different olive oils to go with one's bread! And all thsi was included in the very reasonable price.

The cruise would not have been suitable for everyone, however. The atmosphere was very American, rather than European. Coffee was rather weak by European standards, but one could always order a cappucino or cafe latte. Evening entertainment was fair but not exceptional, mainly because the entertainers tended to be individuals rather than a singing/ dancing team. I was disappointed with the guest lecturer - or "enrichment" lecturer - who attempted to approach her interesting subject matter from a popular rather than an academic angle.

The only disappointment was the quality of "destination services". They could sell overpriced tours but had little practical information about the ports we were visiting or how to get to the town centre. It was the rather lazy "take a taxi" all too often. It wouldn't be difficult to compile basic information for each port for independent travellers to enable staff to point on a map which part of a port the ship is docked in, or the number to the centre. In some ports, local tourist office staff came on board, but sometimes I wanted the information in advance or to get off the ship before the tourist office people arrived.

Overall, however, the trip was very good and so RELIABLE. One was confident that no dish would be unappetising, that none of teh crew would ever be rude. And the ports visited were very suitable and interesting. The tiem allowed was suitable. Thinsg ran punctually. Recommended.

I could certainly recommend the double expressos that I took whilst on Nautica this summer.
