We had a wonderful cruise on the Explorer of the Seas 24th. April until 4th. May from Newark to Bermuda, St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Puerto Rico.
The ship was wonderful we had read various repors before we went about it looking tired. This is definitely not the case. We had a junior suite on deck nine which was spacious and had a bath as well as a shower. In fact we have booked the exact same cabin for our next cruise in April 2009. The walk in cupboard was brilliant for hanging all clothes. The ship was actually fresher looking in some areas than the Freedom of the Seas which we went on last year. You could see work being carried out as we sailed.
Cabin assistant good but not great had to chase him up a few times for ice and paper work.
The people were superb again we had read about joining a cruise from Newark and with the New yorkers etc. can be very rowdy .This was not so. The people were entertaining and on formal nights almost 100% dressed beautifully again compared to the Freedom where some people turned up in shorts on formal nights. We loved the dressiness, even on other nights everybody made on effort. Perhaps if there was a down side we did find the dining very very busy but food was good. We like a table for two a bit of a struggle to get us one where as our last cruise we had it from day one. I do feel when you request this you should get it. Fingers crossed for our nest cruise. No problem with the buffets in Windjammer, great if you go at the right time no big queues
Try Porofinos....the service....the food....everything was to suit you ...will definitely be booking a couple of times on our next cruise. By the way we have two further cruises boked for next year.
Ports of call.
Aha what a disappointment they cancelled Bermuda the one place we had specially wanted to see. Someone had taken ill and we had to get them back to mainland America. A bit of unrest on the ship as a couple on weddings had been planned as well. I felt they should have sent us some kind of note to our cabin in case you missed the captains announcement. However we had an extra day at sea. Loved St. Thomas liked St. Maarten San Juan was fine. Swam, shopped and walked a lot in those places .We had booked a tour for Bermuda, and the Skyline drive in St. Thomas the views are breathtaking one of my favourite views.
Karoke show great fun. Felt bingo too dear. Main shows good. Head chef show funny. Casino great but although they have a small no smoking area we did find it very smokey and it does put you off, I will upset a few people but could it not be all no smoking .
On our cruise we had loads of Harley bikers and it was good to watch them leave the ship and join the ship each day from our balcony.
Overall another great cruise we love the street for a drink late afternoon and night and the staff always recognise you andare very friendly. Roll on the next two. One with Royal Carribean and one with Celebrity.
ps. it is the 2009 book I would like re your email
