Five Night Cruise from Barcelona

Reviewed By: Hall, Fareham on 27th Nov 2008
Cruise Line: Royal Caribbean Cruises Times cruised before: 6-10
Cruise Ship: Navigator of the Seas Sailed: June, 2008
Destination: Mediterranean Age: 56-65
My wife and I took this cruise with our daughter, son-in-law and 13 year old granddaughter. We had seen the cruise advertised more than a year previously and reserved two Junior Suites because the price was just £50 per person more than for balcony cabins. The cabins were twice the size of a normal cabin and the balconies were bigger as well. The walk-in cupboard was very generous for hanging clothes.

As the cruise was 5 days, we decided to stay in Barcelona for 2 days beforehand and enjoyed the sights of this wonderful city, using the Tourist Bus. You pay for the day (or 2 days) on the bus and it has 3 routes covering all the sights. You can get off and on at any stop. On the morning of the cruise, we had to vacate by 11:00 am so we took a taxi to the cruise terminal and checked in. We were on the ship very quickly and had the rare sight of the enormous Promenade Deck almost empty. The Pub was empty so we felt it would have been rude not to offer our custom and took some liquid refreshment. After a look round this huge ship, we had lunch in the Windjammer Buffet Restaurant, which offers a large variety of tasty food although we prefer the service and standards of the main dining room, where we had dinner.

The first port of call was Cannes, where we moored off the beach and were tendered in to the old port. We had a stroll down the famous Croisette and had a look round the shops and beach before returning to the ship for lunch followed by some on-board sunbathing.

Our Granddaughter decided to join the Teens Club thinking she wouldn't be too keen. She met several girls from different countries and still contacts them by email. In fact, her parents were having to wait up for her some nights as the activities did not finish until 1:00am. She loved it.

We also stopped at Livorno, where we took a boat trip round the canals and Civitavechia, where we took a trip into Rome. Both trips were organised by Royal Caribbean and were good value for money. The formal evening followed the visit to Rome.

The entertainment was varied and of a reasonable standard - the highlight was the Ice Show, magnificent!

The final day was a day at sea - sunbathing, relaxing and enjoying the facilities on board. It is a disappointment when you have to disembark but both embarking and disembarking is oh so easy compared to the USA. Altogether a really enjoyable week - 2 days Barcelona and 5 days cruising. If anyone wants to try out cruising, it would be ideal but I recommend this short cruise to anyone.
