KEITH & JEANs AUTUMN JAUNT

Reviewed By: WALTON, THACKLEY BRADFORD on 27th Nov 2008
Cruise Line: Royal Caribbean Cruises Times cruised before: 6-10
Cruise Ship: Legend of the Seas Sailed: October, 2008
Destination: Mediterranean Age: 65+
This was a late availability cruise, booked online and taken just two weeks later. We were a bit concerned about cruising 0n a smaller, older ship as Legend of the Seas was built in 1995. no problems, this smaller ship was great, less walking to and from anywhere onboard really. We travelled independantly to Citiacecchia to board which was a very swift and easy affair. Our Chinese stateroom steward greeted us fleetingly and was seen very rarely for the next 13 days. that said the cabin was well cleaned and tidyed each day.
We have yet to travel on a cruise ship that provides a HOT buffet meal!! While the selection was vast, the lack of freshness left us eating a healthy fruit and toast breakfast most mornings. Lunch was a similar event with trays of overcooked food lanquishing in watery chafing dishes. We ate the evening buffet twice after long days ashore, and this was a very different animal to the mass catering during the rest of the day. A restricted menu but hot, fresh and very tasty. We were on first sitting in the main resturant, and generally this was a very good meal with very good service, however our chinese assistant waiter, with only one other cruise under his belt was a trial in more ways than one. His grasp of silver service was rudimentary to say the least along with his grasp of English!!
We really enjoyed the entertainment each night with quality acts in the main theater. the crew were very pleasant and polite, with only one failure, the loss of my wifes white cardigan and its failure to turn up in lost property
The late autumn itinery from Rome up the Adriatic to Venice and back via Croatia and Sicily was perfect and blessed with fine weather and balmy sunny days.
So for a cruise we had not really planned and was priced in the bargain basement we had one of our best cruise holidays on RCI Legend of the Seas
Quality of Food4
Main dining room
Entertainment1
An old italian tenor, used to sing in the duo " Rene & Renata " should have been retired years ago
Shore Excursionsn/a
Shore excursions are always very expensive on cruises, and we teamed up with many independentaly minded travellers to make our own arrangements
Staff4
Our waiter in the main dining room was superb. He had spent 5 years with RCI and it showed!! His advice regarding menu choice was spot on as was his wine selections. His table service was flawless, which went along way to redeeming his new assistants gaffes!!!
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities1
We only had 3 days at sea and found it very difficult to find a unattended sun lounger in a peaceful position away from the loud music and poolside meyham!!
Cabins2
Our inside cabin was smaller than other ships we have cruise on and when the beds were made up as a double, there was only acess down one side, the othe partner having to crawl over the bed to get in!!!!!
