MSC Lirica,Med Cruise

We embarked on theMSC Lirica sept 27.We had booked a "cruise only" as the cost approximated to a mid price B&B in the UK ,and for a high deck outside cabin! Boarding in Genoa, after a Ryanair flight, was easy, probably because as this was a repeated cruise around the Med,passengers got on and off at most ports and there was no unseemly rush on disembarking either. The Lirica is a newish ship and gleamingly clean in every respect;we were escorted with some courtesy to our cabin and for only 140 sq ft it did not seem cramped. The furnishings are of high quality, beds comfy,a big window and decent bathroom with storage.
Unlike other cruises we have taken, the passengers ranged from babies,a few children, young couples, families and the more elderly. So a mixed bunch and a good mix of European nationalities.
The entertainment was outstanding, especially from an excellent range of singers and dancers.
Food was generally good but the buffet was often crowded and by taking a late lunch there, you risked getting lukewarm and stale food. The restaurant was much better with superb freshly cooked breakfasts and 5 course dinners served in the Italian style.Coffee was O.K. Hot beverages generally could be had on deck but only till late afternoons after which you were required to pay in a bar.Wine prices are reasonable with a half litre of good Sicilian red for 9 Euros and with no 15% service charge whacked on as most lines do.
The spa was extensive but as usual pricey;even the standard sauna was charged to your account.
All told this is a comfortable ship, with beautiful public areas, and a very welcoming feel.I have never enjoyed a Captains cocktail party so much, with repeatedly offered drinks and delicious cold or hot bites.
An excellent cruise and great value for money.
