We flew into Palma de Mallorca on Sept.16th. to join Ocean Village Two.
We'd been on her earlier in the year,so we knew just what to expect..that's why we booked her again, this time to do The Med, instead of the Caribbean.
We were upgraded, from a restricted-view cabin(8105) on Deck 8, to an Outside Cabin 6060 with full view, even though to be truthful,I think I'd rather have had 8105,
because we often had inconsiderate runners clomp-clomping overhead on the Promenade Deck 7 without even realizing what they were doing.
Still the cabin was very nice, the fridge and safe worked, and we were right at home, despite the garish choice of bathroom decor!
Dining Anytime is clearly the way to go, as is Ocean Village's casual attire for evening meals, where everyone dressed nicely anyway without fussy overdressing in suits and other un-necessary stuff like that.
We saw NO football shirts or shorts and slip-slops...I think the word has now got around that THAT is not acceptable!
We enjoyed our restful day at sea before getting to TUNIS,where we went ashore on one of the ship's well-done Tours of Carthage and Sidi Bou Said.
We thoroughly enjoyed the ruins of Carthage and seeing the sights of picturesque Sidi Bou Said,
even though the antiquated haggling process to buy souvenirs(or anything else) put most Westerners off! DON'T stay on the ship in Tunis, it's really quite interesting and we had fabulous weather while we were there. albeit for just 4-5 hrs.
The next day was CIVITAVECCHIA, where Wife did ROME -and I took the ship's Lake Bracciano Tour!
It rained on both our tours, but we still enjoyed them.
The Odescalchi Castle at Bracciano is amazing, as is the boat-trip on the lake over to Trevignano Romano,on the other side!
We both did ship's tours at this stop due to the long distances to be travelled,
and we both thought ALL our ship's tours to be decent value for money, considering we were in foreign lands, didn't speak the language, wouldn't have a clue where to begin, and it was all laid on for us!
Still don't know why/how people moan about ship's tours being a rip-off -that has not been our experience!
GENOA was next: I'm still in love with Genoa, with the amazing Neptune figurehead on Roman Polanski's 'old' galleon moored in the harbour, and with the amazing shopping alleys where you could wander around for several days, let alone several hours!
There's a free cross-harbour water-taxi shuttle service, so avail yourself of that and save yourself much walking to get over to the interesting side of town!
Genoa was gorgeous -and we had nice weather. I'm going back some day!
CANNES..(even on a Sunday) is an interesting and fairly lively place!
Several interesting shops were open to cater to cruisers, and we bought many beautiful 'things' to take back home to Barbados, where we live!
It all seems very far away now, and I'm getting strong hints about Someone's 'need' to return there...hmmmm!
BARCELONA: La Rambla was very interesting, we bought more 'things' including a Spanish recipe book, interesting ceramics, and then the rain came down spoiling the whole thing..
Were it not for that, Barcelona could've held our interest us for hours and hours!
There are amazing shops and stalls there, but walking around dripping wet was no fun,
and so we beat an early retreat back to Ocean Village Two which was warm and dry.
Back to PALMA the next day and the end of our dreamy Med. Cruise.
Palma airport is bigger than you think, and there's a lot of walking to be done, be warned.
We were one of the early flights out, so no time to scout around in Palma
...besides the money had almost run out by then!!
We had a lovely time on OV2, doing the Med. and let's say plans are afoot....hmmmm.
Do it. You'll like it!
