Another great Island Star cruise

Reviewed By: stott, OVINGHAM on 25th Nov 2008
Cruise Line: Island Cruises Times cruised before: 3-5
Cruise Ship: Island Star Sailed: October, 2008
Destination: Mediterranean Age: 56-65
Our 2nd cruise this year, same ship but different itinerary. The food was good, ate mostly in the island-cruises-summer-holidays/">Island restaurant as we dislike the plastic plates etc. in the Beachcomber and feel hygiene of guests is not as high ( no one to check disinfectant gel used at entrance to restaurants). Missed the Comedy acts that had been a feature of our May cruise but entertainment still good. Excursions were good value and we appreciated the ones that gave a view of a place with not much walking (husband not fully mobile). Some problems using internet as not all sites worked at all times, consequently we did not get full use out of pre paid package. Food got a little monotonous, variations on a theme of beef, chicken and fish with little change in salads or desserts over the week.
Quality of Food4
Food standard was very good but became a bit monotonous with regards to salads and desserts. Always a fish, chicken and beef dish but vegetarian option never looked very appertising. Breakfasts were excellent with fresh fruit (again always the same) as well as a selection of hot food. Preferred the Island restaurant but indulged one evening at the Oasis, quantities not large but extremely high quality and delicous.
Entertainment2
Enjoyed the Elvis impersonater very much, the comedian was poor, more suitable for young children as routines were quite slapstick at times. A singer billed as a celebrated tenor was over rated, could see why he did not win the X Factor.
Shore Excursions3
Favourite excursion was to Rome, we did the easy one where you stayed on the bus. We saw all the sights without the hassle and driver ensured that both sides of the bus got good views of all the monuments. Commentary excellent and not too much historical minutae.
Staff5
They were all excellent, the waiter in Oasis remembered my husband from a previous cruise which made us feel special
Children's Facilities3
Although there were a lot of children aboard they never bothered us as activities seemed to keep them occupied all the time.
Onboard Activities2
Only activities were pool games and quiz type things. A film was shown one afternoon when weather was poor. Main activities are seminars which are really just advertisments for expensive spar treatments. Husband really enjoyed the embarkation visit to the bridge, good value and educational as well as fun.
Cabins3
Cabin was inside on bronze deck. We pre booked to ensure a 4 berth cabin which is larger. No problems at all.
