My husband and I have just returned from a week long cruise on the Sapphire Princess, departing from Los Angeles and calling at Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. We have not cruised with Princess before and we were not disappointed. The ship is absolutely beautiful and spotlessly clean, also it was extremely nice to have an English Captain, whose announcements you could understand. It was lovely to have a Promenade Deck that you could walk around, to stand at the front of the ship and see nothing but blue sky and blue sea is amazing. There are nice teak loungers with squashy cushions on this deck, lovely to sit and read a book and have a cup of tea. Our cabin steward, Richard was extremely helpful, polite and did an excellent job looking after our stateroom, which was inside on Caribe deck and perfectly roomy with a queensize bed. The bathroom was quite small, however, having cruised many times before, we are used to that. There was a huge open plan wardrobe with loads of hangers and lots of drawer space and a safe that was free of charge. The hairdryer in the stateroom was perfectly adequate for my very unruly, thick hair, I did not need to take my travel hairdryer from home. We had a table for 2 in the Vivaldi restaurant, we were well looked after by the waiters in there. The restaurant was never full and we had very prompt service. The food was superb, both in this restaurant and also in the buffet restaurant, where we chose to have breakfast each day. We found that we ate so much at breakfast that we did not need to have a meal at lunchtime! When we boarded the ship, we were offered a 'soda' package, which was $4.95 per day for unlimited coke/sprite. Well worth doing if you get very thirsty like us. They put a little sticker on your card to show that you have paid for this and you can use in any bar/restaurant on the ship. They also give you a special thermos type drinking cup with a lid, that you can fill and take ashore with you on this deal. Alcoholic drink prices were reasonable, $4.95 for a bacardi and coke and $6.95 for a pina colada. 15% tax is added to all drink purchases. The ship is totally cash free, everything is charged to your stateroom card and automatically taken from your credit card details given at the time of embarkation. We opted to have the $10.50 per person gratuity removed from our bill, we prefer to tip people individually.
The only disappointing aspect of our trip was the entertainment. The first and only show we saw in the big theatre was very poor and we chose not to bother with this again. Comedian Carlos Oscar was very funny and we saw both of his shows. We did a Catamaran excursion in Puerto Vallarta and snorkelled and fed big angel fish. We saw dolphins and whales, which was an amazing sight, the whales are plentiful in this area at this time of year. At Mazatlan we decided to take a car tour around the area, which took about 2 hours. Our driver, Elvis, was lovely and took us to all of the tourist spots and into the town to have a look around. It was tender time in Cabo San Lucas, we were only there from 7-2pm, not very long to do much at all, so we had a stroll around the town and marina and did some shopping. We enjoyed visiting Mexico and we did not feel uncomfortable walking around as we have done in some caribbean islands. All in all we had a superb holiday (we also had 4 days in Las Vegas at the start of our trip) and we will most certainly be cruising with Princess in the (not too distant) future. Well done Princess!!

Been on many cruises loved them all, found Sapphire Princess was in every case just as good and in many cases superior. As I'm a fussy eater I opted for anytime dining and dined in the Horizon every night where the food was excellent and so varied, salmon, trout, steaks, pork, lamb, ham. chinese food.indian food and even a different carvery every day.several potato and rice dishes and fresh vegetables and 2 different pasta dishes every night.Breakfast was excellent with choice of continental or English about ten choices of cereal and 7 or 8 different types of bread rolls and bread. several egg dishes including scrambled, poached ,boiled, and 3 different omelette dishes also a great choice of fresh fruits. Also spoiled for choice for desserts with at least 6 or 7 cakes very seldom repeated every day, puddings and fresh fruit. One day there was a dessert buffet on deck with all different gateaux, even being a fussy eater my plate was full every time.I'm now on a diet but it was worth it.cabin was great on carib deck with balcony half outside and half under cover with 2 recliners and 2 sittiing chairs and a table,Service was excellent. This was a 7 night Mexican riviera cruise after 3 days in Las Vegas and 3 nights in LA and was excellent for relaxing on our balcony reading and gazing at the vast ocean as we sailed on wishing it would never end. Alas it did but we still had 3 days in San Francisco to look forward to. We are now looking forward to our next cruise on this ship. ```````````

we have just returned, [06/01/2011] from the same trip and had 2 nights on the Queen Mary II ship in Long Beach prior to boarding the ship ................. wonderful and so elegant but is looking a little tired,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, so near the Sapphire Princess for boarding though! We are Platium members and therefore the boarding at about 1pm was queue-free and painless and we could go to our statement immediately which is a bonus............. We had chosen anytime dining and it suited us well and we always rang up in the day to book a table in which ever of the 4 venues the 4 of us in our party wanted to go to and always at a time to suit us; no worries! The Sterling Steak venue with the $20 supplement was well worth it and the service was sublime. The shows - well 3 we went to- were good, [the last two better than the first] but nothing special i must say. We booked on the ship for the tours at the 3 ports and they were as described and were lovely........ The weather was lovely and warm . NOW the moans.... 1 the staff continuly wanted to sell you something - either the wine tasting or the coffee package but this did lessen into the trip but nevertheless annoying 2 the service to get a drink on the deck around the Lotus Spa was non-existent 3 we had previously on other cruises enjoyed the Sabatini`s $20 supplement venue and couldnt wait to go again but this time it was dreadful. We went New Years Eve and booked at 1930 and on arrival the waiter said too many bookings had been taken so .................. anyway we entered 7.30pm as I said and left at almost 11pm and the servicce was terrible and at various courses the food was brought to our table to be dished up and we didnt have plates or cutler and so it was taken away and then when we had the plates and cutlery we had to wait for the food that had been left congealing somewher and therefore was no longer piping hot. The wine list was half the size of other venues and they had not taken into account what people might order for New Years Eve. It was only after another diner complained I suspect that the hats and that are given to diners in the other venues were produced but certainly no enjoyment or excitement by the staff for this exciting night.................. and I know I am fussy but when you dont touch 3 courses, [yes there is plenty of courses] surely they should ask WHY!!!!! YES we are already booked with Princess again but last New Year we cruised wth Royal Caribbean and it was better and more fun................. Hope this helps everyone and yes we complained afterwards and got the $20 back per person but the night was spoilt

We are considering this cruise for February next year and your review makes it sound very appealing. Our only concern is that is there enough to do for a 17 year old? We have previously cruised on the Ruby Princess which he loved, but notice that this ship is a lot smaller.
