In August 2009 my wife and I sailed with friends on the Royal Princess from Venice to Civitavecchia visiting Ravenna, Split, kotor, Corfu, Valletta, Messina, Sorrento, Ajaccio, Monte Carlo, and Portifino. This was a superb itinerary and all of the ports of call were beautiful and very interesting. The Royal Princess is a beautiful ship and life on board is like living in a small country hotel with lots of quiet areas to relax while onboard your cruise.

We have previously sailed on the big and very big cruise ships but we just loved the small and quintessentially intimate ambience of this ship. The big plus about this ship is it is small and only has 710 passengers so there is no large crowds or queues, very few children and it is beautifully decorated. As it is a small ship it was also able to visit the smaller ports like Ravenna, Kotor and Portifino and the Captain also treated us to a close up night time view of a volcanic eruption on the Island of Stromboli.

In May 2011 the Royal Princess is to be renamed the P&O Adonia which is going to replace the adults-only ship Artemis and I can thoroughly recommend Royal Princess to anyone considering going on a trip with her before she becomes the Adonia.

We took the cruise only option and made our flight and travel arrangements. On our arrival at Venice it cost us 40 Euros taxi fare from the Airport to the cruise terminal but our pre-booked taxi from the quayside at Civitavecchia to Fiumicino Airport, Rome which was approx 1 hour long cost us 115 Euros.
Quality of Food5
As always food on board was of a very high standard and we can thoroughly recommend the Steakhouse Restaurant
Entertainment4
We spent most night in the Casino Lounge Deck 5, Amidships listening to the most amazing voice of pianist singer Bobby Hamilton
Shore Excursionsn/a
We did our own thing at every port of call, hiring local taxis or jumping on a train or local bus. It is worthwhile to do some research on the internet before you travel to check out train timetables and fares.
Staff5
As always Princess Staff really do look after you and we certainly found all staff to be very helpful
Children's Facilities1
Royal Princess really doe not cater for children and I felt sorry for the children who were on the ship as there really was nothing for them to do other than play in the pool.
Onboard Activities4
There is an excellent library and games rooms on board as well as the trivia and music quizzes which were great fun
Cabins5
We had a balcony cabin which was very spacious.
