THe Island Princess is a beautiful ship with, surprisingly for a ship carrying 2,000 passengers, plenty of space and no feeling of overcrowding. The food and service were excellent - the food was maybe too good for we both added several pounds. Our double bedded cabin was spacious and comfortable and our cabin steward provided for all our wants. The waiters at our table in the fixed dining Provence Restaurant were extremely efficient and friendly and the availability of the open sitting Bordeaux Restaurant and the Horizon Cafeteria gave us options that we took advantage of at times although preferring the fixed dining in the Provence. The entertainment was good and varied and there were plenty of activities to occupy you when the ship was at sea.

The cost of excursions off the the ship were high and we did take advantage in Costa Rica of a local taxi driver to give us a tour at a more economic price. The trip to the World Heritage town of Antigua in Guatelmala and the mainly walking tour of Cartagena in Columbia were well worth booking for however. The ship's passage through the Canal was well worth seeing and a special treat to us who had heard and read about it so often.

A great cruise which we would recommend and our main complaint was that it wasn't long enough!
