Coral Princess

Overview: The layout is quite user-friendly, and less disjointed than on many ships of a similar size. In a 2009 refit, an adults-only ‘Sanctuary’ area was added to provide a quiet zone, with comfortable, padded sunloungers, and ‘Serenity’ steward service. Although there’s a daily fee, it’s worth it

We had always wanted to do an Alaska cruise and in May 2012 we flew into Vancouver for an overnight stay before sailing out the following day. We stayed in a samll Boutique hotel called the Georgian Court which was excellant and very near to the port. THe ship was the Coral Princess which we boarded in beautiful early Spring sunshine, cabin spacious with a good balcony fro seeing the wildlife and glacier watching. Having crusied numerous times before with PRincess we knew the layout of teh ship and any small pitfuls that there are with Princess cruises, such as the breakfast buffet seating issues but perhaps because this was early in the season we didn't come across such problems. The 7 day trip took us to Juneau, Ketchican, Skagway and Glacier Bay. The trips provided by Princess are always good but we managed to get out and get some great trips going solo, hired a car in Skagway took the White Pass Railway to Frazer through the beautiful snow and ice covered countryside, wonderful scenery, breathtaking views, high mountians and plunging gorges. Always check out what is available in relaiton to trips you can organise yourself rather than shpis tours as they can be expensive, great savings can be made doing your own thing.
Princess provided a naturalist commentator for our trip into Glacier Bay which was out of this world the commentator was unmissable providing both an informative and spellbounding insight into the the wildlife and their habitat, bringing it to life for the passengers. We would have missed so much if we hadn't such an expert on board. The wildlife was bountiful, grizzle bears, sea otters, elk, etc. The captain ensured that we had a spectacular view of the glaciers which 'calfed' to order, wonderful experience hearing the thunder of the cracking glacier moving into the sea.
The ship was well maintained, clean and up to date, food up to Princess's usual standards, service excellent and crew always attentive. The entertainment was a little below average but I think at times the outdoors were meant to entertain the passengers rather than the evening shows.

This cruise lived up to all our expectations and will be one we will always remember.
