Just returned from the Caribbean on Caribbean Princess. Only our 6th /7th cruise (back to back).
Another great Princess cruise. The food was excellent. The staff were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble.
Always managed to find us a table for two if we wanted a quiet meal, or we could join in with new friends and acquaintances on other occasions. The princess singers and dancers excelled yet again, but the number of shows seems to have been reduced, as have the number of speciality acts flown in to join the ship during the two weeks.
A first for us on a cruise. 350 runners came aboard at San Juan for the second week and proceeded to be up each morning and off to do a pre-arranged run as we docked at a different island. We half expected to see them on deck 7 on the sea day, but perhaps they had a lie in.
There were some criticisms however.
This is a first for us.
The volume of sound in the Princess Theatre was often so loud as to distort the sound and on some occasions to appear to drown the singer. (Like a disco)
The lighting was often annoying for the audience, shining brightly on us rather than the performers. (Again like a Disco)
The excellent variety and presentation of the food was not really as hot as perhaps we are used to. No point in sending it back to be re-heated.
The standard of dress at dinner is slipping very quickly, especially the men. Some without a jacket or tie at Formal Nights,
some very casual when it is Smart Casual. Some wearing scant apparel in the Horizon Cafe or the other eateries.
There were far too many towels on sunbeds beyond the thirty minute limit, and not many deck attendants to police the situation. Rules are meant to be observed but there do need to be observers to keep an eye on things untoward without spoiling anybodies enjoyment. We can't do much about the noisy ones who because they are on holiday think that can do what they want. Or can we??
That's enough moaning. It was still a good cruise. The Canadians outnumbered the Yanks or so it sounded. That must be a first for the snowbirds. Sadly there were not many of us Brits, which again was surprising.
Where am I looking for my next cruise? Princess of course. Who will arrange it for me? Julia I hope. I'm sure she will.
