My recent river cruise was a superb trip down the Danube from Passau to Budapest and back to Passau, visiting the very pretty little towns of Durnstein, Melk, Esztergom and Grein along with the wonderful cities of Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest - in all, four countries.
MV Mozart is a stunning vessel, beautifully furnished and well maintained, and the crew could not have been more friendly, helpful and courteous. My outside cabin was spacious, and tastefully appointed and kept immaculate by the attentive stewards.
Entertainment was just right for me each evening, good music, some dancing if one wished. Alan Titchmarsh was on board this particular cruise and gave two amusing and interesting talks. He and his wife were relaxed and chatty and he was always willing to give the odd gardening tip when asked!
The shore excursions were excellent, with a few extra ones on offer, if wished. The evening event in Vienna was a highlight - a classical concert at the Kursalon. Classical music is not to everyone's taste but the programme was the popular kind that people can recognise (e.g. 'Blue Danube') and sitting in the wonderful building, where Strauss himself performed, was worth the visit in itself. All the excursions were well planned with very good guides.
The most talked about event on board was eating - the food was delicious and temptingly presented. In fact we never stopped eating, one meal was followed by a 'snack', another meal, afternoon tea, etc and many were themed - Bavarian, Hungarian for example. Meals were always five or six courses (more on the gala evenings) plus an amazing buffet.
There was even time to sit on the upper deck, sunbathe and watch the glorious scenery pass by, and where stewards were always around to provide drinks or the wonderful afternoon tea.
A great pampering trip for luxury, scenery and interesting shore excursions.
