Recently we returned from the Ventura cruise 13th - 27th Jan. Overall the cruise was very good as expected as we have been on the same ship 2 years previously. Unfortunately one thing really annoyed us - we opted for 2nd sitting dinner at 8.30. The entertainment was first class especially the ships own singers & dancers called the Headliners but because we were 2nd sitting we had a reduced choice of shows compared to those on first sitting or freedom dining. During the first week the 2 main shows in either the Arena theatre or Havanah room (mainly tribute acts) were scheduled at 8.30 & 10.30 those on the 1st or freedom could see both shows as they finished dinner by 8 - 8.15 we on 2nd sitting who finished dinner 10 -10.15 pm had to choose between the 2 venuse thus missing the other. I did speak to the Cruise Director and from the second week 3 performances in the Arena theatre 7pm 8.30 & 10.30 meant we could see a show before dinner and the second show after dinner. It might seem a minor thing but we enjoy the entertainment - shows, comics & the tribute artists and to only have 50% available was annoying. Hopefully P&O will keep to the early shows so as not to disadvantage us second sitters!!!

We have cruised 30times 12 with P&O. I have spoken to Cruise Directors before about this lack of entertainment between 6 30pm & 8.00pm many times. We were on the Arcadia 9/1/12 - 27/1/12 still no entertainment and yet at 6.00pm two trio,s were performing to empty lounges as the Captain was giving away drinks at his welcome party. American ships always provide entertainment before dinner for 2nd diners why can,t P&O? P S the dinner menu was the worst we have had on a P&O ship.

We have always chosen 2nd sitting and haven't found a problem with the shows. Last March we were on Azura and they had three showings of the show in the theatre. We often went to the early show at 7.15, before we ate at 8.30 and this worked very well. Also very often an entertainment will be repeated on a second evening. We much prefer 2nd sitting and have never felt disadvantage. It would have been interesting to hear more about the rest of the cruise - you only gave three stars for the food and the cabins for example - what did you think about those. You only talk about the entertainment in your review.

Freemantle I note your comments and agree - as soon as a third performance in the Arena theatre at 7.15 was initiated from the start of the second week our "gripe" was rectified - this still meant that for the first week we were disadvantaged. The question is why was the third performance only iniated after week one? - it would appear from your comments that on Azura the 3 performances were for the entire cruise. You also say that often a second performance is scheduled later in the cruise - in my experience some acts appear again but these are completely different shows. I have written to P&O for their comments!! No reply yet.

Went on Ventura Oct 21 last year entertainment was the best we have had on any cruise we have been on the food was good Marco Pierre White restaurant was exceptional both food and service worth paying the extra for service in Ramblers was great as were the staff only downside restaurant waiters were rather miserable the same in the self service but would not deter us from going with P&O again looking as we speak Happy from Chester

That's a fair comment. We were on Ventura in 2011. Fortunately we chose Freedom Dining. Nevertheless we had to juggle our dinner time to be able to see the shows. Consequently we were sitting down to dinner any time from 6pm to 9.15pm. We also enjoyed the entertainment. Two of the comedians in Havana and the one in the Theatre were side-splitting. Glad you also enjoyed Ventura. We thought it was an amazing ship and we had an absolutely wonderful time onboard for 17 nights.
