Just returned on the Ventura, Disappointed only Thomson charter flight upgraded to premier economy was worth the extra, but not as good as B.A. Transfer to ship was excellent did not see luggage frm Gatwick until delivered to our cabin. Didn't arrive to after dinner if I had known I would have put a change of clothes in hand luggage. We have been on Princess before & found P & O lacking at all levels. Ship was huge with 3100 passengers & on sea days felt it was overcrowded. Breakfast & lunch were a nightmare to find a table, too much pushing & shoving to get food, not our style at all. After that on sea days we either has tapas in Ramblas or went in dining room to be served. Sail away from Barbados was a non event couldn't get a drink as all the waiters seemed to have disappeared, steel band was good but stopped about 2 minutes from port! Cabin was a good size & balcony, if you are below B deck then everyone can look down on your balcony luckily we were on A deck. I would rate this as 3* the food was far too English, black pudding, chops & haggis were on dinner menu. Only 1 local beer on offer but had 2 pumps with Boddingtons! Would never go on this one again, maybe if we investigated a smaller P & O ship that was going to a destination that interested us we may consider. We ate in The White Room which was good, did n't try East. If you like all inclusive holidays with lots of English people then this is for you. If you like a more sedate up market holiday then I am afraid this will not do at all.

Thank you for this report what you discribe as what you don\'t like is what I do like ( apart from the pushing & shoving ) eg - english food, english beer etc. I like to get away from the english weather but not the way of life?

You must have been on a different cruise to me! I too like nice holidays but this no way resembled an all inclusive get away (in fact i have been to some beautiful all inclusive 'upmarket' holidays). Yes it had a lot of passengers but you knew this before you booked - i dont like crowds but i always managed to find a quiet spot if needed. Yes the buffet could be crowded but again on realising this we got up a little earlier and enjoyed breakfast in relative peace - never had to queue. English food - you were on a cruise for British people - you didnt need to eat it - there was lots of other things to choose - maybe you should have gone to East (which was very good by the way). You do seem to have a downer on this holiday when in fact i met lots of lovely people - not the chavy/scallies i was lead to believe frequented this ship by some reviews i have read. Yes it was not a top line cruise but you didnt pay their prices - and as i said i too like the finer things in life but i knew what i was booking, i researched the holiday, it was much cheaper than any cruise i had been on so i didnt expect 5 star service but i still enjoyed it - definately not 3 star!!

I completely agree with Lord's comment. We cruised on Ventura 2/1/10 and really enjoyed it. We too had heard and read all the bad reviews and wondered what we had booked! We met lots of lovely people, enjoyed eating in all the different restaurants and we could easily find a quiet spot on sea days. The cruise was very well priced compared to what we had payed for other P&O cruises. We could not fault it and would look forward to cruising on Ventura again.

Have not cruised on P&O but have flown both BA and Thomson to US & Caribbean. BA World Traveller seat pitch 31"-32"Thomson Std cabin 34"-35". On current prices BA upgrade to World Traveller plus typically £600.00 return, Thomson upgrade to Premium Cabin £250.00 return. I would not dream of travelling out to any holiday destination without a change of underwear/shirt/socks etc in hand luggage, the stories of missing checked luggage are legion.
