My husband and I sailed on the Ventura for 2 weeks to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary on the 14th of February 2010 to the Carribean and we had a great time sailing around from Barbados to St Lucia, St Kitts, Aruba, St Marten, Antigua, Grenada, Curacao, Tortola, St Vincent and back to Barbados. It is not a restful holiday but a very busy one as you are onshore if you wish at every post to explore. We did only a couple of trips to the black falls in St Vincent (which was magnificent) and the champagne and sunset on the day before we left for home which was very good also.
The ship itself was very clean and the cabins service was good in all aspects from the food to the room service (apart from the last day when we had tipped the cabin steward and he didn't want to know us after that which we thought rather rude).
Whilst on board we renewed our vows and Captain Paul Brown performed the ceremony which was done very tastefully and with emotion. (only fault there was the photographers who were not very good im afraid which I did comment on in my comments sheet). As we had renewed our vows we were invited to the Captains cocktail party's on two occasions which which we enjoyed.
The entertainment on board was okey but one person who was excellent was Peter Piper (he was a comic come singer) and he kept us in stitches especially when he was doing the Chinese doctor sketch he was hilarious. He also done an imprssion of Freddy Mecury which was very good.
The main restaurant which we were in was the Saffron and the service was very good and the East restaurant was excellent but the self service restaurant (which had two sides)was a bit of a hassle as there were to many people wanting tables at the same time and they only opened one side at a time so much so we christened it Debenams.
All in all we had a great time on board but it will take a bit of catching up with Cunards fleet as we have sailed on The Q.E.2 and the Q.M.2 and on the New Queen Elizabeth in November perhaps there new M.D. Carole Marlow will take some of her skills from Cunard and put them into practice with P.and O. who knows.
We would sail on the Ventura again but perhaps in a few years time just to see if it was still the same.

Had the same problem with our steward. I wonder if we had the same one? We were on E deck. The only thing that bothered us about the self service was the couples that sat on opposite corners of a four seat table to avoid sharing with others.

Hi. Yes we were on E-Deck to cabin 118, (Freddy was his name) you wouldn't get that on Cunard ships. Yes I agree with the sitting arrangements but we just sat down anyway to there disgust (to bad I hate selfish people). It was the same when we had arrived on the Saturday and went into the safron restaurant for dinner and you were told just to sit anywhere, while we were still eating the waiter was trying to set up our table for breakfast. I was drinking a glass of water (which we were conned into paying nearly quid for the bottle) and he lifted it away from me as you can imagine I wasn't best pleased and told him so. As they say we will know the next time if we ever go on P n O again. Linda.
