My wife and I had a very enjoyable trip to the Baltic on Oriana. We had previously travelled to the Mediterranean and the Norwegian Fjords on Arcadia. When we arrived on board Oriana we were initially disappointed with the decor and style of Oriana. The trouble was that we had sailed on Arcadia twice when she was quite new and we liked her very much. To us, Oriana was dated and was showing signs of wear. Large atriums with waterfalls don't impress me very much and I preferred the subtlety of Arcadia's atrium. I didn't like the decor in the Pacific Lounge at all. However, we had to bear in mind that that Oriana is 10 years older than Arcadia and was fitted-out when fashions were different. Therefore I blame myself for not thoroughly researching the ship before booking. It didn't spoil the holiday though and we thoroughly enjoyed the newly-renovated Lord's tavern and we made good use of the spa and fitness centre.

The cruise itinerary was superb. We were informed that we wouldn't be calling at St Peter Port but that instead we would be going to Tallinn and this was a real treat. I would certainly go to Estonia again. St Petersburg was also special. Wherever we go next time, I don't think we'll book as many excursions as they turned out to be expensive on a 14 night cruise. Next time we'll book fewer organised excursions and do our own thing to save a bit of money. The food throughout the trip was excellent and we could not fault any of the staff. I read somewhere that someone had mentioned the 'corkscrew' effect that Oriana suffers from and I think we experienced it a couple of times whilst sitting in the restaurant at the rear of the ship (I can't remember its name). I would suggest that this may have something to do with the fact that Oriana has propellers. The effect was minimal and whilst it annoyed my mother-in-law, I didn't mind it at all. Arcadia is an adult-only ship and we had reservations about booking Oriana because we envisaged children making a noise etc but I'm happy to say that we experienced no problems and that we would happily travel on a child-friendly ship again.

We would love to go back to the Baltic with P & O but next-time we'd go on a more modern ship.

Faultless. Can't remember the name of the restaurant but it was at the rear of the ship.
