Thomson flight left Gatwick on time. Good cabin crew and easy transfer to ship. Luggage delivered to cabins whilst we were lunching at the Plaza (6 in our party). Well appointed cabins (C Deck) although bathrooms rather compact! Excellent, experienced cabin steward - Sunil. Dining - could not get Club so had Freedom but this worked very well and all food and wine waiters generally smiling and friendly. Headwaiter - Abel - great guy. No complaints at all about food quality and choice. We booked our own shore excursions - Grenada, Margarita and Acapulco via web and Guatemala at port - all were informative and enjoyable. Would recommend to anyone. The unscheduled stop in Cristobel was entertaining with scores of stalls selling local crafts with local dancers and musicians. Highlight was transit of Panama Canal (boy, can it rain there!) Unfortunate loss of air con was dealt with promptly and our discomfort was minimised by the sympathy and concern of the crew. Captain Reid was quick to address the problem and kept us informed at all times. Entertainment was very good although we couldn't get in to any of the 4 shows given by Martin Daniels - maybe next time. 'Radio shows' side splittingly funny and the Red Arrow Talks very informative and not to be missed is an unforgettable 'Interview with Captain Reid'. The only downsides were the noticeable cutbacks - no flowers in cabins, limited choice of drinks at the Captain's cocktail party and very few canapes. No flowers in dining room towards the end of the second week. Front desk staff need Customer Service training. A good time was had by all in our party.
Quality of Food5
Ligurian and Adriatic - food fantastic, unfortunately we ate just about everything. Cafe Jardin (Marco Pierre White) ate there twice and disappointed with quality of food and service on both occasions. Horizon Grill - very pleasant, but very large portions.
Entertainment4
Headliners excellent. Bobby Crush good. Disappointed that we could not get in to see Martin Daniels as the theatre used was too small for the event.
Shore Excursionsn/a
Did our own - they were great
Staff5
Head waiter Abel - dealt expertly on a daily basis with a member of our party's food allergy.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities3
Disappointed with the fact that there was too much equipment for the size of the gym. Dance instructors - style of instruction not as easy to follow as others.
Cabins4
Cabin was very comfortable and well-maintained by Sunil but bathroom a bit cramped.
