We have just returned from cruise E004 onboard the Oceana,we departed Gatwick on the 19th feb the flight was delayed by an hour due to a technical fault but the flight to Barbados onboard a Thomas Cook A330 although long was comfortable, when we arrived at Barbados we were whisked quickly straight from the plane to the ship which was just what you needed after a long flight, our first stop was Grenada which was ok but nothing special,we then went to Margarita island where there was a nice sandy beach about 200 yards from where the ship was moored and a few stalls but the nearest town was over 2.5kms away, the next day was at sea we then visited Bonaire which was a nice town with crystal clear waters our next stop was Curacao which had replaced our original destination of Aruba which was cancelled due to the amount of cruise ships in port,on the way to Curacao the ships air-conditioning packed up due to the ship getting a hole in her side and the compartments where the air conditioning plant were in became flooded, the ship was unbearably hot for around 20 hours while some specialist divers tried to cover the hole and the compartments were pumped out and the electrics sorted out,due to us having to stay in port for several hours longer than expected our itinery was changed again and our stop in Huatulco was cancelled,we did stop at Cristabel on the entrance to the canal but it was just a container port with nothing but a few stalls selling t-shirts,we then went through the panama canel which was fantastic out next stop was Puerto Quazal in Guatamala a port in the middle of nowhere with a few stalls dotted around a dusted field should you visit there you need to travel away from the port,we finally stopped in Acapulco which was lovely the only problem is by the time you have walked 100yards away from the terminal you have been acosted by a mass of taxi drivers trying to get you to go on there trips,
The flight home was delayed by 3 hours by the time we eventually took off and the service going home was not of the same standard as the flight going out,
Overall the Oceana is still a lovely ship, the Headliners theatre company were the best we have seen on any PO cruise but the cabaret was limited but the acts were good but there were numerous repeats, also there were very few different films shown, the food on board was plentyful and there was a good choice, there was always plenty of sunbeds available so there was never sany problems there.

Amazing how people perceive things differently. Many things above from our perspective are quite inaccurate and do not reflect what the cruise was really like. Instance, there was no hole in the ship at all, an intake pipe under the ship became loose and let a small amount of water into the electrics controlling the air con. Grenada was a fantastic island and not to see the nutmeg centre and the island in general is wrong.

it seems the you may have been mis informed the crew definatly said that the ship had been holed and if it only suffered a minor problem seeing all the divers at Acapulco definatly backed this up and according to the passengers on the following cruise who had a 13 hour delay leaving for there cruise due to the problems with the hole and again having a delay while divers also had to work on the boat in Curacoa suggests that there must of been a serious problem with the ship!!

sorry to disagree but i personally saw smoke coming from the side of the boat 11.50 pm but didnt realise what it was until next day, and we heard the divers on the radio talking about \'the hole\' also a member of the crew confirmed this to us. i agree the ports of call we did have we lovely but we have been before and chose this cruise for Aruba, Panama Canal and Hautalco (2 of which we didnt visit) so to us it was disappointing. Also the divers were back on site for 2 days in Acapulco.

The highlight was the Canal, other than that it was very disappointing.

All ports of call were of great natural beauty and had lots to offer with history and culture. In all cases the locals were friendly, helpful, pleasant and informative. We explored each destination, independently, with the services of local operators who were available at each port. Very easy to book and reasonably priced trips with local guides in Grenada ( beautiful Spice Island), Margarita (more than just a beach!), Guatemala and Acapulco - get info from the web and book direct with local operators, it's easy, safe and fun. Food superb!
