Just returned from a fabulous 7 day cruise to Fjords aboard Azura. The weather was the opposite to what we expected as we had packed clothes for cold wet weather, only to be pleasantly surprised with warm sunshine from our second day onwards (with a few late afternoon showers). The sea was reasonably calm for the whole cruise and our sail up the Fjords were on pond-like conditions.
The scenery was spectacular in the bright sunshine which made the excursions ashore even more enjoyable with fantastic photographs.
The food was excellent in the Meridian Restaurant and we also tried the buffet themed nights on the top deck several times.
The Headliners Theatre Group were fantastic and the comedian was very entertaining.
Our cabin steward was very polite and courteous and came to our aid with a clothes repair emergency on the second formal night.
We did excursions everyday with the glacier trip on the Troll Car being the most enjoyable. We even witnessed an avalanche from the glacier. However we would recommend the use of the Troll Car as the trek to the glacier on foot is only advisable for young or active people. Several 'inactive' cruisers gave up midway.
We booked a Getaway Fare inside cabin at the last minute (I won't quote the price we paid). The cabin location mid ship on C deck was perfect, so why pay a dearer price (Vantage Fare) for a similar cabin. This accommodation is just a 'room' to wash, change and sleep, as you spend most of your time around the ship or up on deck enjoying the scenery etc. With the savings to be made at the last minute we definitely shall be looking to book this way again. The savings will more than cover the proposed 'shuttle bus charges, non-choice of dining or spending money).

I agree with you about booking a Getaway fare and pleased you got a good price but us families have to book a Vantage fare so P and O are penalising families. I was told on the phone by P & O's sales staff that they will not let families book getaway fares as they have a certain quota of children who are allowed on board and very often they are filled quite early. I don't think P & O intended to but their system does not help families and when they have two (soon to be three) very large ships to fill I wonder about the business sense of Carol Marlow and her sales teams!

Completely agree with you would only book Getaway, it actually crossed my mind that if everyone waited for a Getaway price then people that had no choice but to book early school hols, particular location on ship etc, would also get their choice as the cruise ships would become so desperate to fill thousands of cabins then surely there would be no problem for these people either. The only solution (in an ideal world) make booking early the cheapest price, but build tips into the price of the cruise, tips should be what they were designed to be which is a reward for good service, like someone said previously they have become more of a Tax and compulsory, on some lines having to explain yourself when opting out, cruising after all is going on holiday away from the stresses and strains of every day life.

I believe P & O are looking at the 'package holiday flight costs idea' in that if you book early then the fare is cheaper and increases nearer the departure. This will work on smaller ships with fewer cabins to fill, but not on the Azura or Ventura. Regarding the opting out of tipping P & O give you a form to fill in with a tick box for the reason you are opting out - hence no sales pressure or embarrassment.
