Cruise Line: P&O Cruises Times cruised before: 10+
Cruise Ship: Aurora Sailed: December, 2011
Destination: Canaries Age: 65+
Cabin: Balcony Occasion: Annual/regular holiday
We have cruised 30 times over twenty years, and our first cruise on the “much loved by so many” Aurora just showed us how far the service and general quality has deteriorated over these years. Where was the Pzazz, the excitement, the looking forward to dinner with top rate service? Not on Aurora this Christmas for sure.
Cabin: Excellent
Cleanliness: OK but little sight ever of a vacuum cleaner
Steward: Excellent

Accessibility was good on all of the ship

Dining: Definitely down market. The Orangery was a dull place and as always a scramble-when it was not closed by NorVirus. The Alexandria Restaurant was pleasnt but the service we got from our stewards left a lot to be desired. If you had ordered spaghetti bogneses they would have offered you Roast potatoes, boiled potatoes, broccoli and whatever other vegetables and gravy that were on offer. Needless to say we saw some passengers accepting everything, and then eating it with a knife and fork. Times and clientele- and probably expectations-have changed.
The food was acceptable but far from exciting

Entertainment: For us the Headliners were the best we have ever seen. Full marks for timing and clarity and their dancing was wonderful.

Other on board activities: We enjoyed the well organised Bridge. We couldn't find anywhere to have a little dance before or after dinner to a modern group. Was it possible?

The pianos around the ship stood idle except for the excellent recitals by the concert pianist, but no-one in the Atrium and only a very third rate duo in the Crows Nest.

We have decided never to cruise with P@O or any of the Carnival Ships again. Carnival are dumming down quality and staffing everywhere.

. . . and how much in relation to average salaries were the cruises 20 years ago in relation to today's cruise costs? Considerably more I suspect.

we were there and what you say was how it was.Joan and I were celebrating our 60 years married on the 26th, Julie the Girl next door arranged the Palace to send the card of congratulations from the QUEEN to the Aurora(this was unknown to Joan). David Box the Captain invited us to a shampage breakfast that morning and the surprise look on Joan's face was a sight to see when David presented her with the card. This to us was it. We started cruising in 1972 some years we did 1 2 or 3 but like us there has been a decline in every aspect of cruising, NCL RCL we have done, but we always return to P&O(why)I dont know unless I think they are still BRITISH ha ha. But dont worry P&O WE WILL BE BACK WHEN WE HAVE SAVED THE PENNIES SORRY I MEAN POUNDS. See you soon. from Sapper & camp follow her.

We have just returned from the 1st leg of the World cruise and were firstly greeted with Norovirus which the Captain implied we had brought on board with us ??? Orangery and Sidewalk cafe closd for approx 12 days and Sidewalk only opened for 2 days I think. Entertainment was rubbish with same old, same old as on previous P & O voyages. No named artist throughout 24 days of which 20 were at sea> Could go on but what is the use. P & O have no intention of improving things or LISTENING to passengers despite Carol Marlow travelling with us for the first 4 days. She wasn't really listening, just paying lip service.

Agree with you we have cruised with P&O for 16yrs and have had some wonderful times very sad to see what is happening,it was the worst cruise we have been on.The Norovirus was on the previous cruise, this is not the kind of holiday anyone would choose once on board we did not have a choice we found it very stressful We love our cruises but not like this.
