P&O Cruises - Aurora
P&O Aurora
P&O Cruises' Aurora is great for families while school's out, but the main audience are a little more mature. Dinner comes in two sittings and there's a strict evening dress code in the dining rooms and bars. The P&O Aurora has space for 2000 passengers and is registered in Bermuda. Pre-dinner drinks are always popular on the P&O Aurora, and the entertainment continues with a theatre and plenty of song and dance and variety acts.
Passenger capacity: 1,870 Year entered service: 2000 Beam (ship width): 106 feet Draught (ship depth): 26 feet Length: 886 feet Tonnage: 76,000 Crew: 850 Number of passenger decks: 9 Number of lifts: 10 Number of swimming pools: 3 Number of cabins: 934
Food, Cuisine & Dining
On the P&O Aurora, there's two-sitting dining in the Alexandria and Medina restaurants. There are also themed dinners in the Orangery self-service buffet and a children's tea. There's al fresco dining in The Pennant, while Cafe Bordeaux's menu comes from Marco Pierre White. Dinner charges start at £4.99 per person for longer cruises and £7.75 per person for two-day cruises. The Sidewalk Café serves excellent burgers and other fast food during the daytime.
P&O's Aurora has many bars and lounges, most of which are pretty quiet. Anderson's looks like a country house, while Charlie's is a piano bar. The Crow's Nest is a big lounge bar and Masquerade is a nightclub that's popular on quiz evenings.
Aboard the P&O Aurora, casual wear is OK during the day, but evening dress code is pretty strict. On a week-long cruise, you'll find two formal nights, two semi-formal and three smart casual. You'll be fine with smart casual dress in The Orangery.
Onboard entertainment & activities
There's solid evening entertainment on P&O's Aurora, in the Curzon Theatre or Carmen's lounge. Its appeal is largely to an older audience, though, with retired couples in the majority on the passenger list. They can enjoy a song and dance troupe, and groups and comedians who always offer something new as the sun goes down on another leisurely day.
During the day on the Aurora, holidaymakers can look forward to lectures, language lessons, dancing, card classes and art auctions.
The P&O Aurora has several bars and lounges, and there's a spa with sauna and steam room that are free to use. Here, P&O has provided an assortment of massages, facials, body wraps and scrubs, plus several men's treatments, a nail bar and hairdressing salon. One-hour treatments start at £60, but look out for special offers, popular on port days.
In the Aurora's gym, you'll find running machines, cycles, step machines, weights and rowing machines.
Spa & Fitness facilities
The Oasis Spa features: * 2 outdoor swimming pools * Children’s paddling pool * Indoor / outdoor swimming pool with retractable Skydome * 4 jacuzzis * Spa * Sauna * Fully Equipped Gym * Golf Simulator * Outdoor Sports Court - can be used for football, cricket and tennis * Hair Salon
Cabins
P&O's Aurora has 900 cabins, which span the spectrum of insides, outsides, balcony rooms, suites and duplex penthouses. As standard, you'll find hot drinks-making equipment, air-con, fridges and TVs. Cabins are serviced two times a day. Disabled passengers have a choice of 22 wheelchair-accessible cabins.
P&O Aurora cabin sizes start at 150 square feet, while the penthouses cover 575 square feet. Naturally, facilities get better with the size of room, to include interesting amenities such as DVD player, binoculars and indoor Jacuzzi bath. Top suites include a butler, while penthouse passengers can look forward to a baby grand piano, balconies and butlers.
