Our first cruise was to celebrate my husband's 65th birthday and his retirement and was only booked eight weeks before departure. So it wasn't planned ages in advance which seemed to make it even more exciting. Luckily we were not disappointed as it was everything we expected and more. On our return we told friends that we really hadn't found anything to fault from the flights to the cruise itself. We left Birmingham via a Thomsons flight on a cold November morning and arrived in Barbados about nine hours later. It was good to know that all the flight passengers were for Artemis so we had started to make friends on the plane. The legroom was good, the seat back entertainment kept us amused although the millions we kept winning on the quiz never materialised- not even on our on board credit! Alcohol was plentiful if required and the meals were fine.
Straight from the plane to the waiting coaches and off to the ship. Boarding formalities were soon completed and we were in our cabin- a very slick operation.
The cabin- A333 was excellent, a deluxe balcony. King size bed, small sitting area, not to mention the champagne and chocolates! Plenty of wardrobe space, bath and shower with ample shelving for toiletries. We were first sitting for dinner and our 4 table companions were really nice people who had all cruised before so we were able to benefit from their experiences. The food in all restaurants was excellent both in choice and quality. Some of the best steak we have ever eaten. We found all the staff throughout the ship were both friendly and capable and also helped to make the holiday so enjoyable.
It was also our first visit to the Caribbean and we enjoyed the different islands but especially our trip through the Panama canal on the P & O excursion from Colon. The entertainment was generally good and despite our initial trepidation during the first sailaway we soon joined in with the other cruisers even learning and performing the Artemis sailaway dance.
We have already booked 2 more cruises this year on Oceana and Azura. We are converts!!
