We have recently returned from a very enjoyable no-fly cruise to the Caribbean. Our journey to Southampton on the Eavesway coach was comfortable and uneventful, and registration and embarkation was quick. The buffet in the Meridian Restaurant, on our arrival, was well-presented and plentiful.
We met several passengers and crew from previous cruises and were able to reminisce with them, which was lovely.
The weather was poor at first but once past the Azores it improved and was great until the last few days when it was foggy and much cooler.
Our cabin steward, Philip, was very friendly and kept our cabin well-stocked and clean. The cabin, itself, was spacious with ample storage space and was in a convenient location.
For breakfast we usually went to the Meridian Restaurant as we liked the relaxed atmosphere there. Twice we went to the Belvedere and had no problem finding a table, and twice we had Room Service which was delivered promptly. At lunch we went to the Belvedere or Neptune's Grill both of which had a wide choice of food. Our evening meal was in the Meridian Restaurant. The food was always enjoyable and varied, our waiters were friendly and helpful and our table companions were great, as a result of which we have all made six new friends.
Having so many days at sea one might assume boredom could be a problem but there were many on-board activities to choose from eg talks, craft classes, health and well-being classes, card games, quizzes, films to name just a few. Plus, of course, relaxing on deck in the sun. A Village Fete was held one morning and this was very entertaining, full marks to the Entertainment Team for their effort for that and throughout the cruise.
We enjoyed all the evening entertainment which was varied and included singers, musicians, acrobats, comedians and a magician, plus the Headliners who were as energetic as always. There were soloists and duos playing in bars around the ship as well, all were enjoyable to listen to.
As we have been to the islands before we only chose to go on two tours, in St Lucia and Barbados. These were both interesting and well worth the cost. In other ports we either went to the beach or explored on our own.
The only port we had not been to was Horta which we felt was disappointing, maybe we should have done a tour there, too.
We only saw the Captain Keith Dowds at the Peninsular Club Cocktail Party and would have expected to see him around the ship at other times, but maybe we were not in the right place,.We did see Captain Sarah Breton when she was on earlier in the cruise.
We liked the ship and felt it was easy to get around, but noticed there were parts which are requiring a refit.
Overall, we had a fantastic cruise.
