Our cruise on Regatta was just as good as we expected having previously sailed with Oceania on her sister ship Nautica.

We like the size of these ships; 650 passengers is big enough to offer a good range of facilities without being too big.
We also expected good quality and varied cuisine and we were well pleased with what we found.

The crew were unfailingly cheerful and polite which has not always been our experience especially with the reception desk on other ships!

Our cabin had two windows (no balcony) and was well furnished and maintained. I was impressed by the range of TV channels which perhaps surprisingly for an American ship included not only BBC World Service but Sky News and Sky Sports News!

We had one disappointment early on when a scheduled stop in Key West was omitted due to some problem of reduced speed caused by engine maintenance work and the need to keep our appointment at the Panama Canal. We had visited Key West previously and had looked forward to a return visit. The compensation offered was adiscount on a future cruise booking which we took advantage of but would have preferred the more immediate gratification of an on-board credit!

The early highlight of the cruise was the transit of the Panama Canal which was made more interesting by the information we were given in advance and the commentary during the transit. It's probably more of a man thing but my wife also found it interesting and enjoyable. Even the only rain of the cruise did not dampen spirits with people clambering all over the ship to get the best positions for their photographs. There was a stunning if distant view of the very impressive skyline of Panama City but unfortunately a stop there was not part of our itnerary.

The stops in Colombia Costa Rica and Mexico each had their interesting aspects but the highlight for us was to see the world famous cliff divers in Acapulco. Their spectacular and unique show of skill and bravery was fantastic and we managed to obtain some wonderful photographs to record the occasion.

Overall a very enjoyable cruise on a very well run ship. There may be too many sea days for some people but that was an inevitable part of this itinerary. We found the tour prices a little pricy but you can safely do your own thing in most places.
We would certainly like to return to the Panama canal in a few years time when it will be even more spectacular after the completion of the massive expansion programme that is under way.

Highly recommended!!

What do you mean - 'it's probably more of a man thing'?! Also 'but my wife also found it interesting and enjoyable'. How sexist and belittling to your wife, or any woman. This is the 21st century. I would love to sail down the Panama - and yes, I am a woman. Have travelled widely and find all places and experiences interesting and fulfilling. Sorry, I don't do 'men's things' and 'women's things, just 'things' that may be of interest.

Pardon me Ms Lewis!! Your reaction to a light hearted and harmless remark is typical of the Monster Raving Loony political correctness gone mad brigade which is doing so much damage to innocent traditions in our fair country.

It was interesting to read your review as we must have joined the Regatta after your trip - we joined at Miami on 20th November 2011. We had delays at almost every port of call and the reason "reduced speed due to essential maintenance work". We were extremely disappointed as our port time was cut from a scheduled 59 hours (7 ports) to 39 hours which on top of the unscheduled tendering meant we hardly had any time in many of the ports. Unlike yourself we were NOT offered any compensation but we had already decided that we wouldn't be booking with Oceania again. Lovely ship, great size and excellent service but we can get all of those things and more with other cruise lines. Stephens, Buckland
