We have just returned from Oceania's 'Amazon Adventure' on their ship Regatta. The experience was unbelievable in all respects. Stunning itinerary (although the river is so wide, even at Manaus, that there is little chance of seeing the rainforest at close hand from the ship) and food of the highest standard. The entertainment isn't as lavish as on the larger ships but we had plenty of talent aboard, particularly the Mark Band who played lovely dance music. The staff are particularly friendly and professional and go to any lengths to satisfy the guests.

I wondered what this cruise itinerary would be like. Thanks for the information. Glad you enjoyed it. I like this size ship, the food and the Oceania staff are amazing. What was the weather like? Did you do any trips?

The itinerary was Miami, Ste Croix, St Barts, St Lucia, Trinidad, Boca de Valeria (a native village at the confluence of the Amazon and Valeria - houses on stilts with few material possessions, but having a communal satellite dish), Santarem (a small fishing/commercial port), Manaus (overnight at a large city 900 miles from the sea and serving as a commercial centre for the whole area), Parantins ( small towm inhabited by the descendents of Portuguese settlers and original natives), Ile Royale/Devil's Island (for the remains of the prison made famous by Papillon), Barbados, Dominica, Grand Turk, Virgin Gorda, Dominican Republic and return to Miami. I have not described the Caribbean islands as theyt have been visited in many reviews. The weather was hot but often overcast in the Caribbean. It was hot and humid on the Amazon, but tempered by a river breeze. A few yards into the rain forest and the breeze disappeared making the heat quite oppressive, even in the absence of direct sunlight.

Thank you for this. Sounds more interesting than some of the cruise itineraries. Glad you enjoyed it.

Would be nice to have read more about your Ports of Call or were they not that unbelieveable.
