We have taken 2 previous cruises on this ship, Sydney to Bangkok and Bangkok to Beijing, both were excellent which prompted us to cruise with them again. First the arrival into our balcony suite, we found a bottle of sparkling white wine in the ice bucket instead of the advertised champagne, when questioned about this the guest services manager told us that head office had changed their policy and he could not do anything about it. I told him the company should not advertise something in their brochure and then change it without informing customers who had booked and paid. The standard of entertainment was nowhere near as good as previously and just 3 proffessional entertainers were brought on board in the 2 weeks, the rest was done by the ships own entertainment staff. One evening instead of a show in the Nautica Lounge a guest versus officers challenge was arranged on deck. One could try and throw a ball through a life ring that one or the entertainment staff was holding in the pool, enter a putting competition or stuff a pillowcase, all whilst the beverage staff were trying their best to get the guests to buy drinks and pushing their cocktails of the day. Wonderful entertainment!!!

The food and restaurants were of the same very high standard that we previously experienced however the staff in their Tapas on the Terrace restaurant were not being supervised as previously and standards of service had fallen. Guests were often seen to be trying to get the attention of staff for coffee and tea refills, especially at breakfast time when it could be difficult to get a table. The other 3 restaurants were extremely good regarding service.

Unfortunately Oceania are letting themselves down with regard to shore excursions, they are overpriced and not fair value. Previously we took many of the excursions offered and we thought that they were fair value although at the top end for pricing, this time we took just one and at $79 each for a 3.5 hour tour, 25 minutes each way on the bus, 1.5 hour guided walk around Ephesus, 30 minutes on our own at the end of the guided tour then to be taken back to Kusadasi for a visit to a carpet manufacturing outlet where a drink was offered whilst they rolled out about 50 carpets. Not good and we did not take any further tours. We met other guests and did our own tours at one third the price.

Finally is this the most expensive coach journey in the world!!! Oceania offering transfers from the port in Venice to the airport for $115 per person, a 25 minute ride. Also on offer a 2 seater sedan (Taxi) plus 4 pieces of luggage $249 or a 4 seater van $349. Many Americans were asking us the distance to the airport, we told them they could get a large private sedan for 4-6 people plus baggage for 60 Euros and gave some of them the e-mail address of a company in Venice. Saved them being ripped off.
