We chose this cruise because of the size of the ship and the itinerary. We did not want a huge floating resort that doubled the population of small islands when visiting.

We had a balcony cabin which I had at first thought would be rather small for 21 days. My concerns were unfounded, the cabin was fine; additionally on a small ship the public areas became like part of your own personal space. I was also concerned about the size of the bathroom but again it was fine.

The food was excellent for mass catering.

The crew/staff ( I am not sure which word applies to the hotel side of things) were very friendly and very efficient. The ship's crew also went out of their way to be friendly.

The places we visited were great. We were not able to go to Komodo but we had not decided whether or not to go ashore there so that just made up our minds for us. We had some of the ship excursions and they were expensive but ok.

The entertainment was low key but that seemed to suit most people as by 10.30 the ship was deserted. There was one very good comedian called Tom Drake, his humour went down well with the English.

I would certainly recommend Oceania and hope it is not too long before we cruise with them again. Additionally www.cruise.co.uk were excellent. Our transfers and hotels pre and post cruise were fine. All timings of the transfers were such that we were able to make the most of our time in Sydney and Bangkok and did not waste time waiting around. Our travel agent was Tina Williams who was great.

My wife and me went on the same cruise in Feb 2008. It was excellent and met all the requirements of someone, who had resisted cruising for many years (my wife wanted to see Australia!). I would tend to agree with Mr Van den Berg's critique except as regards the catering. His description of it as "mass catering" implies canteen style eating. In my day job before my recent retirement I travelled to virtually all the Continents and ate in several top class restaurants; the quality of the food and service especially in the Polo Grill and Tuscanna would compare most favourably with any of them. To give them 3 stars seems a little parsimonious although I accept that Mr Van den Berg's taste buds and standard of excellence may well decrease my own by 2stars! Our second cruise on Regatta with 2 friends around the Med in Feb 2009 again fulfilled our expectations with one of our friends commenting as she dined on lobster overlooking Monte Carlo " A 5 star dinner in a million dollar location. And at the risk of boring you we are cruising around South America on Insignia in Jan 2010 giving us a nap hand of the fleet. Booked again by the lovely Heidi at Cruise.co.uk. Finally I would add that the medical facilities on board were first class. George Fawcett Master Mariner

I would agree with you entirely about the food. We have just returned from a cruise on Insignia, this is definitely not mass catering. We chatted to one of the chefs about how good the food is. The bread, croissants etc are baked fresh every day. The fruit and veg is flown in fresh daily from Holland to every port and salads are prepared fresh, no pre-packed stuff here as on other cruise ships. In some restaurants the food is cooked to order and in the Tapas on the Terrace restaurant it's cooked in small amounts replenished regularly. Anyone who eats meat will be in seventh heaven with the steaks. I don't eat meat but had a massive selection of alternatives to choose from. Now I have to start cooking again at home. Well there's always next year!
