We cruised with OV in June 2008, Greek Islands, the Hotel Mirabello was superb, great location and food, first class, we tranferred to the OV 1 and found the standards had declinded somewhat since our last 2 cruises with them, the overall quality of food could be described as canteen quality, although the entertainment and staff were excellent, and the overall cleanliness of the ship was below standard. Would not cruise with them again, which is a pity as had enjoyable experiences in the past with OV.

It is a shame that you had a poor experience, we did the trip in June for 2 weeks. The food and cleanliness were excellent. Although the trips do look expensive they are excellent- you are always well looked after. I hope that this does not put you off, it really is a great ship.

I also cruised in June, then august, then october ! I agree re entertainment and staff BUT not with the comment re overall cleanliness. It is one of the few ships with a consistent policy of hand cleansing for passengers before entering the resturants. P&O are very lax (hence all the recent reports of norovirus on various ships recently on these reviews) and so are Princess and NCL. The ship was cleaned thouroughly during the night (yes I was up !!) and although public toilets could sometimes do with more frequent cleaning this was really up to mess (paper towels not in the bins provided)generated by lax passengers. I found the Waterside restaurant superiour to Plantation in every way. The food there was much better and the larger servery allowed for more choice. As a buffet style goes it was good, not fantastic (though the curries were) with plenty of choice. I prefer Princess but It costs so much more. OV is incredible value overall and I urge people to enjoy it before we lose it to Australia 09/10. You can read my recent review dated 15th Nov. I returned from barbados on 11th nov.

I would agree with your comment reference cleanliness, this was our second cruise with OV, they were always cleaning. We just thought that standards had dropped a lot and that it is now a bit jaded especially in the cabin furniture. We would not travel OV again.

I know what you mean, but although dark brown cheapish wood is not fashionable it works perfectly and the amount of storage provided is second to none. Perhaps that's the problem, it makes for too much wood in the cabin. I would rather the storage though. The bedding is not old, the mattresses are new and very comfortable as is the seating. The rest of the ship is as good as any ship I have been on (princess, P&O) recently. The value for money is terrific !!
