We flew from Manchester to Barbados with Thomas Cook airlines which was the first time for us.We found them to be very good, the seats and leg room we thought far superior to either BA and Virgin economy seating. The cabin crew were on the whole very pleasant and the service they provided, again was generally good, but as ( in our opinion ) with all airlines, the food was total rubbish.
On an Ocean Village cruise once your cases are checked in at the airport, you don,t see them again until they are delivered to your cabin, so the arrival in Barbados was just a case of stepping off the plane straight on to the coach for the transfer to the port, where the embarkation check in was fast and efficient. We then had to re board the coach to be taken round to the ship.As we drove from Scotland to Manchester, then had the 9 hour flight, then the trip to the port, we had been on the go for many hours. So it was with great disappointment to find that our cabin was nothing short of disgusting. The airconditioning did,nt work, and on entering the bathroom we found a dirty filthy large brown crack right across the middle of the wash basin. This then resulted in endless complaints, and our refusal to accept the cabin to which the management did,nt give a toss, although thanks just to one person in a management position, four hours later we were given another cabin.
The first day of the cruise we then found out that P&O had sold the ship and as one of the crew told us it was being run down. this became quite evident when asking for things that were on offer, not being available (certain wines, ice cream ect ).Again on the first day we discovered the ship was 21 years old and my god did it show.
As for the rest of the cruise, the excursions we did were well organised but exspensive,we mainly did our own thing which was much cheaper. The entertainment, we would sum up as some really good and some really poor, on par with our previous cruises. The biggest disappointment for us was in the quality of the food ( normally the highlight of a cruise ) for us it was totally monotonous and poorly presented, our local Tesco cafe does better. But to be fair we did speak to people who thought the food was good.
To sum up ,we were bitterly disappointed in the whole Ocean Village experience and would not recommend it, pay a little extra and go for a modern ship.
