We have just arrived home from our first cruise. We chose an Ocean Village cruise because it appealed to our lifestyle; free and easy with no 'dressing up', come and go as you please. We had never been on a cruise before but had frequent holidays all over the world to compare with. We found that the food was fantastic. There were a couple of restaurants where you had to pay a cover charge (Bistro and La Luna). We did not choose to pay extra so stuck to the usual 'Plantation' and 'Waterfront'. We were not disappointed! The choice of dishes was endless and there was something for everyone. Other people who dined in the Bistro thought the cover charge was well worth it and that the meals were superb. At any time of the day there was something good to eat.
The cabin did not have a balcony but was an outside cabin. It was clean and of an adequate size. The TV was very basic but it didn't matter because we did not have to watch it, there was too much going on elsewhere. The entertainment was second to none. There was a real variety; dancers, singers, comedians, magic act, tribute acts and acrobats. All were excellent and really entertained us. There were also many other things going on, demonstrations every day near the pool etc. We paid for two excursions, in Tunis and Florence/Pisa. We are very cost-conscious, so thought the cost was quite high but, having looked at other reviews from other cruises, perhaps they were not too bad. On other days we found our own way around quite easily.
Honestly, the only downside to the whole week was the flight home, which had a three hour delay. We will defiinitely go on another cruise, although I don't think we will be able to take another Ocean Village cruise, as they are moving to Australia - lucky Aussies.

Having just newly returned from an Ocean Village cruise myself, I agree totally with what you say. It was a fantastic experience. Our cruise was Gateways and Gondolas on Ocean Village Two, and I cannot praise the ship or her staff highly enough. As you said, the food in the Plantation and Waterfront (non-pay) restaurants was of excellent quality and a fabulous choice for everyone. I really wish I was back there..... and it is a shame that the Ocean Village fleet is moving to Australia.

Thats airlines for you - ruin an otherwise perfect holiday and the poor ship usually gets blamed as well. Bet it was Thomas Cook?
