This was my first cruise. I was pretty impressed with the standard of decor on the ship, and the Christmas decorations were very tasteful. On board I found the food to be good generally, both in the main and speciality restaurants. These were worth the supplement. The standard of service was high in general. I had an inside cabin and missed having any kind of daylight. The cabin was spacious enough and well serviced by the Filipino cabin staff. The ports of call were interesting with the exception of Puerto Cahacabuco and Puerto Montt. The former is only a dock, so I went by bus to the nearest town, Aysen. Unfortunately it was raining in a very British way and no cafes or restaurants were open except the cafeteria at the large Unimarc supermarket. At Puerto Montt I took my only excursion, white-water rafting on the Petrohue River, which was fantastic. The journey to the river took about 75 minutes and we passed through some beautifully lush countryside. The excursion was expensive at $150 and for that lunch was very perfunctory and the minibus was old and uncomfortable. I enjoyed the onboard entertainment, especially the excellent shows by the Jean Ann Ryan company. During the sea days there were activities, but few of them appealed to me, apart from the martini tasting and the margarita tasting. One day in the Pacific we experienced a Force 11 storm which certainly made things interesting. At the end of 14 days I was quite glad to leave the ship. The best things ashore were the Mercado del Puerto restaurant in Montevideo where I ate the best steak of my life and the totally surreal Port Stanley where the weather was warm enough to have a pub lunch of excellent fish and chips outside, washed down with Shepherd Neame's finest ale! Buenos Aires, Punta Arenas and Valparaiso were all well worth a visit. Overall, however, I can thnk of things I would rather do than cruise which for me was altogether too passive an experience.

Onboard Activities1
Most activities did not appeal to me. During much of the cruise the weather was unsuitable for deck activities. I got a lot of reading done!

Seeing you gave most categories 4 stars and 1 category 5 stars I fail to see how you arrive at a 2 star rating for the whole cruise.
