I have just recently got back from a short 5 day cruise on NCL JADE. We chose this cruise as we only had time for a short break and wanted to try a cruise leaving from the Uk as all our other cruises have been fly cruises.

Well first of all let me say that I thoughly enjoyed the whole experience of a home port much less hassle and stress of the airports. The entire embarkation and disembarkation was handled efficiently by both the port personnel and NCL's staff.I was a lilttle worried before hand about travelling from Southampton in case the sea was rough as I suffer with motion sickness, however I needn't of worried, yes there was movement but the JADE handled it very well and it wasn't to bad.The whole check-in procedure took less than an hour including dropping off cases, going thru x-ray machines, receiving our pass/key cards and boarding the ship.

On boarding the ship we were greeted with a glass of bubbly and offered a map. We had a quick look around and decided to go for a snack in the Garden Buffet. We didn't want to much to eat as there was a sailaway BBQ at 4.00pm. There was quite a selection in the Buffet from salad bars, pizza, burgers, curry, stirfrys and a different roast everyday. The standard of the food was good I must admit that it did taste better than it looked! However the choice was not as extensive as the Windjammer on RCI.

The JADE was garishly decorated and the cabin (standard inside) was on the small side however the ship was spotlessly clean and there were hand disinfectant machines eveywhere including the lifts! The choice of restaurants was great (12) and we ate at the speciality restaurants several times (we never once ate in the main dining room) I can highly recommend Cagneys Steakhouse the food and the service was the best I have ever had on a Ship and comparable with high end land restaurants, well worth the supplement. Le Bistro was also very nice and worth the upgrade. The rest of the time we ate in the Buffet.

I can't really comment on the shows as we never went preferring to stay in Bar Central and then onto the Spinnaker Lounge after midnight which became the Niteclub.

Plus points - clean ship, excellent choice of restaurants and bars , and a friendly relaxed atmosphere.
Negatives - Small cabins with small portable TV'S (bit hard to position yourself on your bed to watch a film) and expensive drinks
All in all we had a really good time on The JADE. I would definately recommend NCL and sailing from Southampton. In fact if NCL had not re-positioned it's fleet out of Southampton I would definately have gone again.
