Here goes Ill try to be fair in this review.

Ship - To be honest it is one of the nicest, cleanest ship you could ever travel on, staff are always vaccuming and polishing. Every one, all nationalities said 'WOW' when they walked onto the ship.

Entertainment - The best shows I've ever seen on a ship, being a new ship the lighting was amazing. I stress only the theatre shows were good, very very high standard. All the singers were excellent and I see 2-3 West End shows a week in London. I'm also an actor and have played lead roles in musicals so I find a previous comment about flat singers surprising! The rest of entertainment on the ship to me was very 'amateur' but the europeans seemed to like it. The best thing for me is that some shows started at 11-11.30 pm so being on second sitting for dinner I was able to attend. Also most the bars stayed open until 2am, so you didn't have to go into the nightclub to get a late drink - Princess should take note as their bars closed at midnight on my Caribbean cruise this year. Its a shame that the nightclub closed at 2am tho, was about 4am on Princess.

Food - OMG - imagine a 2 star spanish hotel and this is worse! Its not inedible...I still managed to put weight on and if you have never cruised before, at home you eat processed microwave food or oven chips and chicken nuggets you'll love it. If you've been on previous cruises you'll be disappointed. In the MDR the waiter who came across as rude at times, kept putting food down then just as you about to eat he would whisk it away as he got the tables mixed up! There was no presentation, just white plate with two veg thrown on to small portion of meat. There was a good choice of courses, pasta course was nice once but rest of time it was uncooked. I asked for cheese selection on two nights, one night I never got it and other time it was 3 pieces of cheddar, two small squares of biscuit and two grapes! The meat dishes were nice every night they were nice and hot. Desserts were a bit hit and miss.
The food in the buffet was always always without exception, no matter what time of day COLD! and one day not just tepid but refridgerate cold. I think they must put beefburgers, hot dogs, roasts, veg etc in the fridge overnight and just put it on a hot plate that warms it from underneath? There was only one day the beefburger was too cold to eat but you do get used to tepid food -I am worried about food poisioning tho, as the hand gels were often empty and half never used it! The buffet selection is poor compared to other ships but good if you are only used to cheap european all inclusive hotels etc. The pizza wasn't bad, like you make yourself at home. I suppose being Italian it should have been good! Dont get me wrong you will not starve but you won't be full either. There were two choices of dessert in the buffet cut into slices and placed on small plate, usually cake or jelly or trifle etc. They had a go at presentation here by drizzling sauce over it! However, you soon work out its the same cake everday with different coloured cream on it! There is a couple of midnight buffet but because I was on second sitting and didn't get out restaurant until about 11pm...(it was midnight one day as dinner didn't start until 10pm.) I never went to the midnight buffet. Most night they have waiters coming around some of the bars with food on a tray, that was good. One day it was just cake and one night it said hot snack, which was yep you've guessed it ...cold! lol
I never went the MDR for breakfast and lunch but I have to say the buffet breakfast was very good! and it was almost hot, good selection, but you have to go to all the food stations, as they do have different food out, so people who didn't walk to the back of the ship to the other food stations (quite long walk) missed out. Yes the reports are true about loud pushy Italians and it is a mad scramble with no seats left, but if you walk through the buffet towards the back of the ship it becomes the other buffet and usually lots of seats. Tea and coffee is free at breakfast and afternoon tea only (which wasn't worth attending, as two types of sandwich and cake, all just on plate. Not on cake stand etc) Be prepared to queue with your mug to get the tea/coffee in afternoon. Waiters serve you with it at breakfast. The design layout in the buffet is very poor, all very messy and not logical! Because kids go free there were a lot of screaming kids.
Room service was efficient but club sandwich was disgusting, it had obviously been toasted in the morning and thn placed in the refridgerator as the bread was soggy and really cold! I couldn't eat it.

Service- there are a lot of reports about rude staff..I think this is more a communication language barrier, yes some staff did come across as rude - when asking for directions I was just told "don't know, open your eyes" lol A couple of bar staff were lovely and remembered what drink I ordered the day before. Cabin staff were excellent! Restaurant staff were miserable, hardly spoke to us and not very efficient. I went to ask for my service charge to be reduced, the desk staff didn't like it but they were not rude. I just signed a piece of paper stating my wishes. My final invoice was delivered and was correct, however since returning home my credit card has had a hold placed on it for £350 (my bill was only £83 as I paid £466 all inclusive. My card has not been debited just a hold placed that will be released after two week if they don't request it, which is worrying?
Drinks - I paid for all inclusive (white sticker) which was a life saver as drinks were nearly £8 each, coffee was £2-3 water in restaurant £1.90 I think. Take a screen print of entitlements of all inclusive package. Reception have to consult a book as they don't know whats included. It states all items in mini bar included, but when I checked at reception two girls said its only drinks not crisps and nuts, but one said its everything! I was asked to sign for minibar items by my cabin steward but after I told them I was all inclusive, I was not asked to sign anything again. I ate the crisps and nuts too!

Firedrill - I never had one as it was at 5pm on the 5th day of my cruise, but I was told to be back onboard at 5.15pm so missed it! I was invited to an english speaking presentation on my 2nd day, but they advertised the wrong room and they didn't think to just put a signup in the wrong room telling people where to go etc.

Embarkaton/Disembarkation - Excellent

Ports of call - I'd been to most of them so stayed onboard and utilised my all inclusive!

Overall I had a good week, met some nice people - would I book MSC again? probably not, for me crusing is about experience, the food, service, ship etc. On Splendida its just the ship that is amazing. If they tweaked their service and food they could rival Celebrity, but if their main market is Italian people and they are happy and MSC are making a profit why should they care about my comments! I apologise in advance for any spelling mistakes!

Hi red .... drinks prices? I have copies of all the drinks menus from the ship and have scanned and posted them on Windows Live (all 48 pages) ................... http://cid-1cdc327c72a4c6d9.photos.live.com/self.aspx/MSC PRICE LISTS/IMG^_0001.jpg .............. and can only find 3 drinks at £8 BLACK & BULL €9.70; RED & RED €8.70 and premium mixes €7.70. Most drinks are €6.70 which convert to £5.82 then back to £6.70 with grats ( conversion rate£1 = €1.15) If you multiply €6.70 by 1.15 you get nearly £8.00 but that's the wrong conversion!! Other than that I thought that the comment about "flat" singers was correct maybe the guy and one of the girls were having an off week cetainly the lead girl doing the Abba tribute stuggled with the range needed. I'm just sorry that your impression of the week you had aboard wasn't as good as my impression of the previous week's cruise and I wish you many better cruises in the future and hope they short out your account soon. That appears to be a real problem on MSC but as I didn't have any packages I had no trouble. so Happy cruising and you never know our paths may cross one day. .... Pete.

Hi Pete, checked and you right about the drinks, maybe because we were not paying I didn't pay enough attention so my apologies. I'm suprised about the singers, they were really very good, the black girl singer was very strong on our nights. I loved the Splendida, a lot of people were saying it was nicer than Celebrity Solstice range. As I said the service and food let it down for me. I also meant to say it was very poor than there are no changing rooms or showers to use when using the gym. You had to walk back to your cabin wearing sweaty gym gear! It wouldn't hurt them to give you free water in the gym either! Hope to catch you soon Pete, think I'm gonna do IOS or Oasis next.

Hi Red ........ Ah!! If you had a black girl singer then you had different singers to us, so that would account for the difference in opinion as to them singing "flat", didn't use the gym so didn't know about the lack of water, changing rooms or showers. a big oversight by MSC . We're booked on Norwegian Dawn in April, Azura in May and Grandeur of the seas in Oct and trying to find a really good deal for late Aug so I can take my daughters as well ( they want to go to the Caribbean, so that may be difficult). ...... May catch you sometime ....... Pete.
