just got back from an unforgetable cruise round the med. the cruise was on the sinfonia from the company msc. started from naples visiting livorno, monte carlo, valencia, ibiza, tunis, catania and back to naples. a truly wonderful experience, not been on a cruise before will certainly be going on another. the ship was amazing. our cabin was surprisingly spacous with all you need for a comfortable week. of course everything in the cabin was compact but everything was at hand and anything you needed was brought to you in an instant. the food as we had been told was superb. all you could eat at breakfast you name it it was available. the lunches were fantastic with so much choice, either sit down and served or buffet on the top deck everyone catered for. the evening meals were fantastic, most evenings seven courses some evenings nine, with a wide variety of choices. one criticism the trips were a bit on the pricey side, you must do your homework before you book any as some werent the best value and some dont have english speaking guides as this is a prodominently an italian company but this did not spoil the trip at all one tip iff you are going to sorrento after your cruise for a weeks stay as we did dont book private transfers by taxi or coach as they tend to be very expensive. we found out later that we could have walked 100yards from the ship to the ferry terminal and got a boat to sorrento for 10euros each instead of 100euros for a taxi and the bus fare from the ferry port to your hotel is only 2euros each. some of the stop overs at the ports were a bit short but you still had plenty of time to go ashore for a walk and bit of shopping. all tranfers at ports of call were walk straight off the ship not like some ports of call where you have to wait your turn to be transfered by tender especially if you are on a big ship like the sinfonia.so no time was wasted on your visits.be very careful in italy it can tend to be very expensive and you can get ripped off very easily if you dont read the menus before you order. we paid 29euros comming out of pompei for 3 beers and a soft drink because we turned left towards the nearest toilets instead of walking a little further to the right where the price was half this. got ripped off in capri as well, just come off the cable car from the top of the island an dwanted some refreshment and stopped at a cafe advertising english tea. we ordered 2 beers 2 soft drinks and 4 sausage rolls, the bill came it was 46euros. when i complained the chap and his wife next to our table said well you are in capri, i said well iff you still order now knowing what we have experienced you deserve everything you get.one trip i would avoid tunis, poor value and they take you to an indoor bazaar where you are pressured to buy goods you dopnt want. ive been to egypt so am well used to pressure selling but not like this you are hurded into a shop with the rest of your group in our case it was 20 people and they have 10 staff that pounce on you in chlostrophobic coditions i could sence that someone was going to get there pocket picked so i grabbed the wife and departed we had been warned before hand not to stray from the guide as tunis
is a haven for thieves especially this bazaar as it was a rabbit waren full of tiny back alleys. all the other trips were of good value and most where very informative. overall this was a very wonderful experience and although had a couple of minor gripes we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. thanks again to this travel company who organised everthing .
