MSC Poesia, the good & the bad. Sailed 11/09/09
First the good. We were up graded from an inside to an outside cabin at no extra cost. Cabin was excellent.
Embarcation was the best we have experienced, had registered on line & it was so smooth, better than Costa, Celibrity & RCCL.
The itinerary was good & we just diid our own thing at each stop. Bari used the tour bus, Kotakolon walk off & just had a look at the shops with a stop for a drink, Ismir hired a horse drawn carrage & tour the town with a great stop at the bazar, Istanbul 2 taxis at 10 euros each took our party of 6 to the blue mosque & St. Hadji. Dubrovinick shuttle to town & a walk arround, 6 euros each, all the cruise lines now charging for shuttle transfers.
Dinning at breakfast we used the restaurant & had good sevice & good food. For lunch the buffet, where there was plenty choice & although ther were times when it got very busy our party of 6 always found a table together.
Staff through out the ship were some of the best I've come across, they were a mix of Indonisian, mainly from Bali, & various European countries. Always remember that English is not their first language & it pays to be as polite to them as you expect them to be to you, also regional accents from arround the U.K. can be difficult to understand so be patient with people, so don't just think staff are being difficult they maybe haveing trouble understanding what is being said to them.
The drinks packages for wine , beer & soft drinks which we had pre booked were great value & easily one of the best deals we have had in our cruising experience.
The bad. Dining in the main restaurant in the evening was poor. The menue choice was limited, the hot food was mainly delivered to the table cold & the cold food (ice cream) melting. The food tended to the bland. The excuse was that the food travelled a long way from the kitchen, however as the buffet was ok this didn't really explain it to me. There was a lack of senior staff available in the dining room during the meal.
The normal course of action would be to use the buffet dining but MSC do not open the buffet in the evening so that was a no go.
Would we use MSC again, don't know, you look forward to the evening dining experience & this was poor they also have a way to go to put on a good gala dinner.
