Cruise Ship: MSC Melody Sailed: April, 2011
Destination: Adriatic Age: 65+
Cabin: Inside

We flew from Gatwick to and from Genoa where the ship was waiting.
The inside cabin was not the most spacious we have had, by any means, but it was clean and adequate.
The food was of a high quality and well presented. As seems to be the norm on most cruise ships these days, we were charged a set rate for 'tips'. This I argued with as I believe that tips are given for exceptional service - over and above what is normally expected - and we tip accordingly. If the cruise lines wish to make the 'tipping' compulsory, then they should increase the original fare accordingly in order to pay their staff a reasonable wage - not depend on 'tips' from passengers
The ship was clean, tidy and smart which made the cruise enjoyable. Excursions were expensive, so we did 'our own thing' at most ports of call. On board activities were limited, deck chairs were too few so there was always a scramble to get a seat on deck, but unless you wanted to lie flat to sunbathe it was uncomfortable to sit up to read. The design needs to be changed.
I have travel led with MSC on two previous occasions but on different ships of the line and found the experience quite good.
Quality of Food4
In the restaurant, and had a variety of the offerings on the daily menu.
Entertainment2
Been to far better shows on other cruises.
Shore Excursions2
Mostly did our own thing, but had a couple of their excursions which were fine.
Staff1
Didn't find the on board staff particularly friendly and in some cases not really helpful.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Onboard Activities1
Not much activity at all.
Cabins2
We have had larger cabins in other ships, but it was kept clean and tidy for us.
