Just back off the brand new MSC Magnifica. We were onboard for a two night taster. It's a beautiful ship, very well laid out with a good quality finish. All the public rooms are well decorated in a very contemporary style.

Cabins are nice, very well styled but storage is lacking especially in the family suites ~ these sleep 5 people but only have two wardrobes (slimline) with 20 hangers in total, 4 shelves, 6 shallow drawers and 8 deep but narrow drawers and a very shallow cupboard. There is plenty of space under the beds for cases, bathrobes are provided, in the bathrooms there is pump dispensed hand soap by the sinks, and stainless steel dispensers in the showers with body wash and shampoo plus shower caps. Pads, pens, postcards, headed notepaper & envelopes are provided in the cabins along with a powerful hairdryer.

Room service is available 24hrs a day but there is a charge outside of breakfast. The interactive cabin TV allows you to order room service, but delivery was slow.

Drinks are pricey in the bars ~ large beer E4.70 +15%, but spirit measures are extremely generous.

Dinning was the major flaw in the product, but this was explained away by staff as the ship had only just left the shipyard and the crew had never worked together before. Vegetables and potatoes were an after thought, plates were cold, there were no soup spoons and there was no style or finess in the presentation. Service was chaotic and people were regularly left without things that had been order.

Nightlife was good, with a good variety of acts in the various bars and lounges. Smoking was allowed inside in various bars but was discouraged in the cabins and prohibited on balconies.

All in all a good (but not great) experience that will probably come together with time. It represents good value for money, especially for families, in well styled comfortable surroundings.

Do you mean to say that they charged you for your drinks or were they the prices from the menu?

I liked the difference between your report and Chris' report (from Romsey). Different content but both so interesting. ....Neil

They were menu prices if we hadn't been on all inclusive

Opinion: Agree Comment by mumford, South Yorkshire (28 Feb 10 15:00) about this REVIEW
Totally agree. A beautiful ship. But we found the mattresses extremely hard. The breakfast buffet hot food was cold though even though we got there at 6 am at opening this morning. No doubt it will come together. The entertainment was great, especially that provided by CRUISEDOT UK. (Lovely to meet you all) WE'VE ALL GOT A LOGO LANYARD!

Thought we weren't metioning the lanyards? or the free coffee table book, or the calendars, or the little ships model (E19 in the logo shop!)?

Thanks for the review. It about sums up what I found on my MSC Cruise. Value for money - Bland and unexciting food but would consider as a second holiday if nothing else fitted the bill.
