This was our first cruise with MSC and overall it was enjoyable mainly due to the superb suite with balcony. The ship was beautiful, decorated in modern Italian baroque style.
The food was of a reasonable standard but not up to the standard of our other cruises namely Cunard, P&O and Celebrity Cruises. There were over 3,000 passengers on board and so the buffet at breakfast and lunch was noisy and very busy. We did object to the waiters cleaning up mid service, sweeping the floor around the tables and whacking the chair seats with serviettes. This seemed to take precedence over the passengers at times.
Free tea and coffee was available only in the morning and at 4.15pm when afternoon tea was served. Otherwise passengers had to pay for a hot drink. No teaspoons were provided instead there were wooden sticks to stir the hot drinks - very unsatisfactory. We would have loved to have had tea and coffee making facilites in our cabin as we've had on other ships.

The cyber study was very unsatisfactory. There were just 4 computer terminals which were erratic and unreliable. Reception declined to refund the cost of any computing time lost due to system failures.

We had to pay for the Shuttle service, and at Casablanca, the one port where we badly needed it, there was no shuttle.
We did miss the expert lecturers that we particulary enjoyed on Cunard ships but we understood that with so many nationalities this was not possible.

There were no niceties such as fruit, flowers, bicuits or chocolates such as we've been accustomed to on other ships.
The English portion of the library was minute and consisted purely of paperbacks with no reference books at all.

In summary, as indicated above we thought that the cruise was enjoyable but to make it even better MSC management would do well to take fact finding cruises on other high quality ships to their considerable advantage.

Quality of Food1
No fresh vegetables available. We got really excited to find sprouts on the menu one evening but they were frozen and inedible. It was hard to find vegetables not smothered in oil. Light meals too seemed to be swimming in oil. When I questioned this they said that oil was very healthy! The food was the worst we've ever experienced on a ship. There was only one restaurant included in the price of the cruise all the others were subject to a surcharge.
